NCGA Member Card

Program Overviewcardart.jpg

Update 4/3/08: Through our contract with a third-party vendor we were promised the delivery of NCGA member cards in February. Our vendor has encountered problems with Visa since this is a new concept and is scrambling to get the cards processed. We are frustrated and are doing all we can to expedite this process. Golfers can still take full advantage of member benefits such as free clinics across the region and free Pebble Beach gate access when playing Poppy Hills. We have now been told the card will mail in a few weeks. We will keep you posted as new information comes to us. Thank you for your continued patience and we apologize for the delay.

A specific e-mail account is available for NCGA members with any questions regarding the card. Please e-mail your questions to the address below:

ncgamemberhelp@ncga.org

New for 2008: NCGA members will receive an NCGA member card - a traditional membership card with extra buying power. The card will provide significant member savings on the course and in the pro shops at Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge as well as free entrance into any of the Pebble Beach gates on the day they play at Poppy Hills (please note, a starting time must be scheduled at Poppy Hills to receive this benefit).

1) The new card can be activated and used as a reloadable prepaid card. Members are not required to activate and load their membership card in order to receive NCGA membership benefits. If activated, it can be used in much the same way as a debit or credit card. For example:

  • The new membership card has a Visa/MasterCard/Discover® log and can be used anywhere Visa/MasterCard/Discover® credit or debit cards are accepted as well as at all Plus system ATMs worldwide.
  • Members can shop at more than 28 million locations where Visa/MasterCard/Discover ® is accepted.

2) The new membership card is NOT a credit card

  • The NCGA membership card is a reloadable prepaid card loaded by members with money upon the decision to activate (members must choose to activate the card).
  • Members can spend or withdraw the funds as they see fit, but can’t spend more than the current available card balance (overdraft is not possible).
  • There are NO late fees or interest charges.
  • Members can reload the card as frequently as they like by phone or online, and can even set up direct deposit from their current bank accounts.

3) When members activate and use their membership card for purchases, a percentage of what they spend comes back to support the NCGA and its programming, including the NCGA Foundation, youth programs and grow the game initiatives.

4) In addition to current benefits, the new membership card offers additional discounts, savings and redemption both on and off the golf course through:

  • Cash incentives upon activation of the card
  • Discounted & free golf and golf related merchandise & equipment
  • Discounted association services, seminars & lessons
  • Discounted travel, special travel offers & mileage rewards
  • Discounts & rebates at name brand retailers

Retailers offering discounts include Apple iTunes, Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Delta Airlines, Home Depot, Safeway and Target among others.

5) Members that activate their cards will also accumulate reward/loyalty points, redeemable through the NCGA members-only online mall, offering discounts and rebates specifically to members. Through the online mall, NCGA members will be able to:

  • Activate their card and create and edit a user profile
  • Check the card balance and reload the card
  • Set up and maintain direct deposit
  • Shop at the NCGA Members-Only Online Mall, which offers savings and rebates available exclusively to NCGA members

6) Additional social/business networking opportunities will also be available through the website, including blog and message boards.

Members will receive additional information upon receipt of their membership card, including an explanation of the program, instructions on how to activate the card and information about the online mall, including special discounts, rebates and promotions occurring when the card is received. A customer service center will be available by phone and through the website, 24 hours a day, to answer any questions members have about the membership card, activation and maintenance of their account, member benefits and the online mall.

Can I receive the card in Japan ? I am temporary resident outside of USA. I’d like to keep USGA membership.

  6.

    Scott Seward writes:

Noboru - As long as you are an NCGA (not USGA) member, you will receive the card no matter where you live.

    Thanks for writing.

  7. John J. Comisky writes:

If I understand the above, the Member Advantage Card will serve two purposes. It will act as a membership card for the NCGA as well as having the ability of using it to make purchases based on the amount of money that I would load onto the card. Does this mean I would belong to the NCGA directly and independantly of another golf club? Or do I have to be a member of a NCGA authorized golf club?

  8.

    Scott Seward writes:

John - You would still have your NCGA membership through a club as in the past. And you do have an accurate understanding of the card - it serves only as a membership card unless the member chooses to ttake advantage of the additonal benefits.

  9. Larry Takehana writes:

When I choose to activate my new membership card do I have to preset a limit of how much I load onto the card, or can I keep loading money to the account (i.e. say I initially deposit $500.00 can I deposit another $500.00 the next day, or next week.). What I want to know is how much I can load onto the card? Does it have a limit of how much that can be loaded?

  10. Larry Takehana writes:

Will the new membership card be embossed like a regular credit card, or debit card?

What has changed that I can not post on line as in the past? I am a current member of NCGA and a sir menber of Pacific Grove Golf Club.

  13. Mary / NCGA Membership writes:

    Walt,

It appears from your GHIN provile that you were a member of Pacific Grove Golf Club and are not any longer. Pacific Grove does allow internet posting. Your membership shows you are an active member of PGG Rancho Canada and this club does not allow for internet posting. You will need to make sure that you always use a NCGA computer at the club. If you have any additional questions please call the membership department at 831-625-4653. Take care.

My membership number for 2003-2006 was 7953 203. Could you please clarify if my membership was received for 2007? I joined at Saddle Creek Golf Course in Sonora, Ca, back in April and have only played 3 rounds this year. I did not post any scores as I was waiting for my new card. After looking overyour web site, I learned new cards are only issued if you are a new member. I plan on playing at least 1-2 more rounds before 2007 ends, one of which will be Poppy Ridge in Livermore this coming weekend. Thanks for the help.

  15. Mary / NCGA Membership writes:

    B. Riley,

It appears the GHIN number 7953203 is an inactive number. I would suggest you contact Saddle Creek Golf Course regarding your membership that you established in April of 2007. Also, yes, you read correctly that no new cards have been sent out in the last couple of years but all active NCGA members will be receiving new cards in 2008. If you would like further assistance regarding your membership please call 831-625-4653 and we would be happy to assist you. Take care.

After being away from Golf and as a member of NCGA for over 20 years. I’m really excited about this new program. Beside the discounts on merchandise, I’m very pleased to see that a percentage will go back to support the NCGA and the youth programs. Thanks again NCGA!

As a tournament director, would tournament winnings put on a member’s pre-paid card be considered like a gift certificate or would it be seen as easily converted to cash. I would love to be able to put winnings on a card that they can then spend on merchandise as they see fit, but would never want to compromise a player’s amateur status.

Pete - No member cards have been sent out. We are hoping in the next few weeks. In the meantime, they can look up your membership at the course to verify, or you can bring a print out of your latest handicap index to take advantage of the member rates.

Antionette - Cards will be mailed after the April 1 revision - we apologize for the delay. You do not need your card to post prior scores, just use the “post a score” link in the green box on the ncga.org homepage.

When can I expect my card it is now April 2 2008

  41.

    Scott Seward writes:

Robert - We would like to be able to give you an exact date, but due to delays encountered by our third-party vendor in dealing with VISA, we can’t.

We are frustrated with the time this process has taken, and are hopeful that the cards are in the mail very soon. But please remember that NCGA member benefits usch as free lessons and clinics, hotel discounts or free 17-Mile Drive gate access when playing Poppy Hills.

Robert - I deleted your member number for privacy reasons. Thanks for writing in.
