New NCGA Junior Tour
In 2008, the NCGA is instituting a Junior Tour for boys and girls, ages 12-18.
The tour will consist of six to eight 36-hole events on weekends in the spring and fall. Field sizes will be from 100-120 and be segmented by age groups. Entry fees will be $60 per event and will include golf and lunch each day. Membership in the tour will be required in order to enter. Membership in the tour will make you a member of the NCGA if you are not already a member.
The following events are currently scheduled:

Field sizes will range from 100-120 players and will be segmented by age groups. Entry fees will be $60 per event and will include golf and lunch each day.
Membership applications and tournament entry procedures will be available shortly.
More information about this exciting new series will be added soon.

The NCGA, in keeping with its tradition of excellence for golf administration, is again leading the country if not the world for bringing golf development to its members. This is just great and Northern California will reap the benefits in the future because it will provide top notch competition at reasonable costs for our junior golfers. The cost of travel and other costs to play in national or even regional junior tournaments is very expensive and not within the abilities of all families.

sounds great count me in
November 21st, 2007 at 10:36 amA good idea and a great price. I think if a junior is a NCGA member already they should not have to join the junior tour specifically to play these events. Age groups and yardages should be a big consideration for these golfers especially the 12-13 juniors. We look forward to learning more about these new tournaments. Thank you for your efforts on the part of our kids.

So if i am 18yrs old am i allowed to play in these events?
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:04 pmThere seems to be confusion in the junior ranks over age elgibility. The USGA and JGANC say 17 and under; the FCWT and AJGA say 18 and under. The NCGA is using 18 and under for all of its championships except the Players Championship (which is co-sponsored with the JGANC). I recommend the USGA’s and JGANC’s age limits–it makes for a better break between high school and collegiate competition.
November 23rd, 2007 at 11:23 pmIF segmented by age group they should also be segmented by sex. Boys have more upper strength than girls and should be judged that way.
November 25th, 2007 at 10:27 amWhy have a Junior NCGA and a JGANC? Seems redundant to me to have both.
November 25th, 2007 at 2:22 pmThis sounds great. My kids are lready looking forward to participating. Thanks for creating a new opportunity for them to play some great courses.
November 25th, 2007 at 8:31 pmThank you for all the interest, comments and questions regarding the new NCGA Junior Tour.
Kevin, if you are 18 and have not started college you will be able to play in the NCGA Junior Tour events and the NCGA Junior Championship. The Junior Players Championship that is held in conjunction with the JGANC will not be open to 18 year olds.
Denise, there will be separate boys and girls divisions at each event.
Larry, the decision regarding 18 year old players was a difficult one. We want to provide players with as many opportunities to play as possible and it was felt that there are players who turn 18 early in the year who are not being given the opportunity to compete after that. Also, we are working to gain recognition from the national rankings and tours such as the Golfweek and the AJGA that allow 18 year olds to compete. Among other things these organizations look at the strength of field in events before deciding if they should recognize them. In order to guarantee the strongest possible fields, allowing 18 year olds to play makes sense. The cutoff is when a player starts college, therefore there is no conflict with college programs.
Ben, While there is an overlap between the NCGA Junior Tour and the JGANC, we feel that there is a need for more opportunities for juniors to play, especially in the spring and fall. The JGANC does have some events during that period, but they are primarily a summer series. We continue to work closely with the JGANC and hope to expand our interactions with them.
The NCGA is dedicated to providing opportunities for all juniors to learn more about the game of golf, improve their skills and provide competitive outlets. As such, we are continuing to expand our outreach to the juniors in Northern California.
November 26th, 2007 at 9:39 amIf a player is already an NCGA member why do they need to also join the NCGA junior tour? Isn’t being a member enough?
November 26th, 2007 at 10:36 amThe Players Championship is scheduled right over one of the biggest junior events in the world. Callway Junior World is the same time as the Players? Seems too bad that there is a conflict for the junior that would be able to play in both.
What will the age groups be for boys and girls? yardage? will that be consistent at each event?
Good Work
Thanks,
Bob..
please email me with more information when available. my son (16) is interested in joining.
thx,
d
November 29th, 2007 at 9:27 pmGreat Job! NCGA is a class organization and is a welcome addition to the tournament options available to junior golfers… the response from John Vander Borght indicates it is well thought out, complementary to existing junior golf organizations and will provide affordable, professionally run tournaments for juniors – Congrats and best wishes!
December 8th, 2007 at 1:24 pmCan’t wait to sign up!!!
.. Please email me when you have registration available.
thanks
December 11th, 2007 at 7:01 pmWe can’t wait. It sounds exciting and a great format.
December 17th, 2007 at 10:59 amLet us know when and how we sign up.
Thanks for thinking of the Juniors.
We appreciate that very much.
Great idea. Nice to see the NCGA stepping up to fill a void in this state. Unlike other organizations which simply sanction tournaments will the same officials be at each event? Are you looking for volunteers as well?
Thanks again
December 19th, 2007 at 7:40 amWith the assistance of our tournament volunteers the NCGA will run all the events on the NCGA Junior Tour.
The NCGA is always looking for volunteers. You can find out more about being a tournament volunteer by going to the Rules & Competitions section of the website and clicking on the How To Volunteer link.
December 19th, 2007 at 2:13 pmHopefully the NCGA tournament “points” will be made available to the national ranking systems. ( Texas, Arizona and Southern California Jr. golf associations are included. ) Currently the JGANC results are not included in the national rankings. This would help the Northern California players stay competitive with Jr players in other states. We’re so happy to see new Jr. Tournaments, thank you!!
December 28th, 2007 at 11:17 amThis is a great opportunity for more junior to join the NCGA and paticipating in tournaments thoughout Northern California. I like
December 30th, 2007 at 10:04 amthe fact that tournaments are held during weekend.
When will registration be available?
January 6th, 2008 at 4:30 pmThe junior tour requires a members ship form to be filled out. I have been all over the NCGA web site and can not find the membership or tournament registration forms. Can you direct me to these forms? Thank you
January 7th, 2008 at 10:53 pmRich and Paul:

Will you be allowing players from other states to join?
January 11th, 2008 at 6:45 amI just recieved the 2008 JGANC calander and it states that the Stevinson Ranch tournament is March 22-23. Is this a misprint?
January 12th, 2008 at 5:44 pmRod — California residency is not required to play on the NCGA Junior Tour.
Andrew — The JGANC calendar date for the Stevinson Ranch tournament is a misprint. The correct date for the Stevinson Ranch Junior Tour event is March 15-16.
