Golf Clubs for Troops

Your spare clubs or balls could brighten the day of our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. Here is what you can do:

troops2.jpgAlthough there aren’t a lot of golf courses in Iraq, there are plenty of bunkers and wide open spaces to perfect a long game.  Receiving a long, skinny box with a couple of golf clubs from the States will definitely brighten the day for a soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It all began in 2003 when Cindy Stanley and her husband, Jerry English, of Monterey, decided to send some Christmas cards with a packet of cocoa to troops in Iraq. Since that time, their organization “Cards and Cocoa for the Troops,” has grown and expanded to much more than a Hallmark card and some cocoa.  More than seven tons of “stuff” has been sent overseas.

Got some spare clubs or a box of golf balls you could send?   Here’s what to do:

1. Call Cindy Stanley at 831-373-7362.  She will give you the name and APO address of a soldier in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
2. Box up your clubs, or purchase a “USPS Flat Rate Box” for some golf balls and tees and mail them.

    Hi Pete,

Can you email me? Save me a stamp?

I am going to approach my local sporting goods store / pro shops
that SELL golf clubs and ask them to save me boxes when they receive
their next shipment. (Last year I taped some boxes together to get
the right size and that was a lot of work, but it worked!) Last year we sent about 2 dozen. This year we are getting ready to box up over 100 clubs that have been collected locally!

    Many thanks for your support!

Hi, I have my grandfather’s clubs that my grandmother gave me after he died. I never can use them because of injuries, and I know he’d want someone else to enjoy using them, since he was such an avid golfer that he lived walking distance from a golf course in Florida for many years. I came across your site when looking for somewhere to donate them for kids. I’d love to donate the clubs and bag to soldiers, but I can’t afford shipping for something so heavy. When my cousin was in Iraq I sent food and movies for just $10, but golf clubs are so big, and I can’t afford more than that. Is there a program that helps with shipping costs? Rather than drop them off at the thrift store, I was really hoping to do something special with the clubs, in honor of my grandpa. Thanks for your suggestions. –Dana

Hi, My son USMC Cpl Davison just arrived in Iraq for a 8mo tour. His girlfriend bought him the Driver for Christmas. I would very much like to know where I could get FREE golf balls(used) to send over. Any Ideas? What you have done from a cup of coccoa to now is incredible, and as a MOM I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART ! This is also GREAT aggression therapy for them as well!

    Requesting Golf Clubs

My daughter is in Afghanistan and everyone in her unit would love to have golf clubs sent to them and/or any golf club nets, balls etc. They got a chance to try golf and they love it. It is a great stress reliever for them.
If you need the unit info, please let me know.
