Haggin Oaks, Arcade Creek course
September 20-21

Scorecards: Boys 11-13 | Boys 14-18 | Girls

September 21, 2008

SACRAMENTO – Stephen Jahncke of San Jose fired a one-under-par 71 at the Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek course, which was good enough for a two-stroke victory at the NCGA Junior Tour-Sacramento championship.

After carding a five-under-par 67 in the first round, the Archbishop Mitty high school junior maintained his overnight lead to hold off Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz and No. 1 ranked NCGA Junior Tour player Austin Roberts of Carmichael, who both finished at four-under-par 138 in the Boys’ 14-18 division.

McElyea nabbed the runner-up honor with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole, while Roberts finished in third.  A four-way tie for fourth emerged at one-under-par 143.  Dash Lindsell of Burlingame charged up the leaderboard with a final-round 69, Austin Smotherman of Loomis posted a two-under 70, while Arbuckle’s Ben Geyer and Modesto’s Daniel Covrig rounded out the fourth-place finishers with 72 and 73 respectively.

The Girls’ division resulted in a tie between overnight leader Emily Chiu of Pleasanton and No. 2 ranked Bonnie Hu of Fremont.  Both players finished at two-over-par 146, while Hu fired a final-round bogey-free one-under-par 71 and went on to succeed on the first playoff hole to claim the girls’ title.

Livermore’s Casie Cathrea also rallied in the final round with an even-par 72 to finish in third place at three-over-par 147.

In the Boys’ 11-13 division, Nicolo Galletti of Clayton triumphed with a one-under-par 71 to edge out Andrej Bevins of Elk Grove by one-stroke, who finished with two even-par rounds at 144.  Meanwhile, Hayden Shieh of Fremont won third place with 75-74, 149.

The NCGA Junior Tour continues next week with the North Bay championship at Foxtail GC, on September 27-28.
