SACRAMENTO – Stephen Jahncke of San Jose fired a one-under-par 71 at the Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek course, which was good enough for a two-stroke victory at the NCGA Junior Tour-Sacramento championship.
After carding a five-under-par 67 in the first round, the Archbishop Mitty high school junior maintained his overnight lead to hold off Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz and No. 1 ranked NCGA Junior Tour player Austin Roberts of Carmichael, who both finished at four-under-par 138 in the Boys’ 14-18 division.
McElyea nabbed the runner-up honor with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole, while Roberts finished in third. A four-way tie for fourth emerged at one-under-par 143. The Girls’ division resulted in a tie between overnight leader Emily Chiu of Pleasanton and No. 2 ranked Bonnie Hu of Fremont. Both players finished at two-over-par 146, while Hu fired a final-round bogey-free one-under-par 71 and went on to succeed on the first playoff hole to claim the girls’ title.
