NCGA Junior Tour North Bay

Foxtail GC
September 27-28, 2008

Scorecards: Girls | Boys 11-13 | Boys 14-18

September 28, 2008

ROHNERT PARK – The NCGA Junior continued its fall schedule with a stop at Foxtail GC in Rohnert Park. The two-day North Bay Championship, part of an eight-tournament junior series in the spring and fall, was contested in three flights.

The Girls’ flight saw a three-way tie for first comprised of Tiffany Lim of San Jose, Olivia Chang of San Lorenzo and Taylor Camany of Salinas at five-over-par 148. All three competitors began the day three or four strokes behind first-round leaders Paige Lee of Folsom and Kercia Brakel of Acampo. Lim emerged the champion with a birdie on the first playoff hole while Chang took second.

Matthew Briggs of Novato held on to his first-round lead in the Boys’ 11-13 flight, turning in a final-round 76 for a seven-over-par 150 total. Clayton’s Nicolo Galletti made quite a charge in the final round, carding a flight-low even-par 72 to finish second by two shots. Christopher Petefish of Danville took third, four shots back of the champion.

In the Boys’ 14-18 flight, California State Amateur runner-up Austin Roberts of Carmichael came from two strokes back in the final round to claim the title. Roberts’ two-under 141 total was good for a two-stroke win over Juston Smart of Fresno and Dash Lindsell of Burlingame. First-round leader Cory Elyea of Santa Cruz faded to a tie for fourth. Roberts finished third in last week’s Junior Tour Sacramento event at Haggin Oaks.

Three net flights were contested as well over the weekend, with Audra Kepler of Pleasant Hill winning the Girls’ net division, and Conner Blick of Danville and Jack Persons of San Francisco taking the Boys’ 11-13 and 14-18 flights respectively.

The Junior Tour next moves to Poppy Ridge in Livermore for the Junior Tour-East Bay Championship, to be held October 11-12.

Whatever happen to all the gold and silver divisions?

  2. John Vander Borght writes:

    JQ,

Due to the low number of higher handicap players that signed up for the Junior Tour events this year, we eliminated the divisions. Instead we are giving prizes for first, second and third net.

We hope to get more higher handicap players next year and will have some events strictly for those players in order to encourage them to play.

Watch for more news on the 2009 Junior Tour in early November.

  3. JQ writes:

At least how many players do you need to make it a separate division?
