Foundation Hosts Clinic at Stanford
The NCGA Foundation hosted a free youth clinic at Stanford’s Siebel Varsity Golf Training Complex November 8.
PALO ALTO – The free clinic was sponsored by the NCGA Foundation including transportation and the young golfers were provided with a new Cleveland or Nike wedge at the end of the day.
“The NCGA Foundation was thrilled to work with the Stanford University golf programs to provide an incredible experience for so many deserving kids,” said NCGA Foundation Executive Director Adam Heieck. “We will continue to work with partners like Stanford to provide opportunities for kids to apply life skills and core values through golf.”
Led by Stanford head golf coaches Conrad Ray and Caroline O’Connor, 40 junior golfers aged 5-16 received a day of instruction at the state-of-the-art practice facility. The youth of varying skill levels were invited through The First Tee of San Jose, The First Tee of Monterey County and the East Palo Alto YMCA.
Golf swing fundamentals such as grip and posture were practiced as the kids rotated among chipping, putting and full swing stations. The importance of working hard in school and never giving up on your dreams was emphasized by the 18 student-athletes from the Stanford men’s and women’s golf teams. All participants had ample opportunity to work one-on-one with the Stanford players and to ask questions on how to improve their golf game.
The charitable arm of the NCGA plans to build on this success and conduct monthly free clinics in 2009.
