Nicolussi, The eClub South Bay will send you a renewal notice via e-mail on Oct. 12th. If you have selected the auto-renew function your credit card will automatically be charged on November 1st. The e-mail on Oct. 12th will give you complete details and directions about your renewal process.

How can I renew online to qualify for the prizes?

  8. Tom Bowden writes:

Doug, Greg and CJ: You can join/renew through 3 different options. First, you may join a Regular club which is a club at a physical golf course. The course may be public, private or resort. For more details on joining a Regular club you will have to contact your local course. The second option is to join through an Associate club which is club that is typically based at a person’s place of business, in their community or some other social place/group. Again, you would have to contact one of these groups directly to join. Finally, the third way to joing the NCGA is through one of our eClubs. These are electronic clubs that are operated by a NCGA staff member and you may join directly through http://www.ncga.org. All of these options are available if you go back to the NCGA homepage and click the orange “Join Now” button. If you would like to join an Associate or Regular club, but are not sure where to go please check the links on the Join Now page that are set up for “members seeking clubs”. The members seeking clubs link will give you some insight into the club you are joining.

If there are further questions please feel free to contact member@ncga.org.

My wife and I have our renewal done automatically through our club (RMCC). How do we get the $10 discount and also be put in for the prize drawings?

  10. Marty writes:

Can I assume that a multi-member invoice (club renewal), paid by the end of the year will make the entire club eligible for the $10 discount? How would that work? Also, your security code letters are REALLY hard to read!!!

  11. Tom Bowden writes:

Larry and Marty, If your dues are paid through your club prior to December 31st the club will be charged $30 for your membership. If you pay after Jan. 1st the club will be billed $40 for your membership due to your membership going lapsed. As for the renewal drawing, you will be entered in the drawing as long as you are active on your club’s roster on December 31st.

  12. Marty writes:

Just a clarification, the renewal rate for returning members is $30. You’ve indicated that payment either individually or through a multi-member club payment before the end of the year is $30. ??? What does the statement at the beginning of this page mean when it says, “Save $10 by renewing before the end of the year “?

  13. Tom Bowden writes:

Marty, You will be saving yourself from the $10 penalty if you renew by Dec. 31st.

  15. Tom Bowden writes:

Thank you, Chuck. We are very excited about the growing list of member benefits and hope that many of you are taking advantage of what is available. In the last two years we have added a number of new benefits with two of the most popular being Free Clinics, which allow NCGA members to improve their game through free instruction at participating facilities, and the Member Outing program, which allows NCGA members access to private and resort facilities at a discounted rate. In 2009, we look forward to expanding our benefits with two notable additions: 1) we are developing an Affiliate Program that will allow NCGA members discounts and benefits at a number of participating facilities throughout Northern California; 2) we will be distributing member cards in early-February that will reward you for spending at Affiliate facilities. Look for further details about the new benefits in the Bluebook Edition of NCGA Golf magazine (released January 2009). Thank you for the continued support. 17. Tom Bowden writes:

JHarris, Yes, you can join eClub and keep your same GHIN number. That GHIN number is yours regardless of what club you join. Also, you will retain your score file; however, please remember the NCGA only updates handicap index on the 1st of every month so if you join mid-month your index and score file will not appear until the 1st of the next month.

Jim, The NCGA charges the club $30 for each individual; however, clubs charge an amount that is more than the NCGA fee because the club puts on their own events, tournaments, etc. The additional funds go towards the administration of your club throughout the year.

My daughter is a NCGA Foundation Youth on Course member. Does she need to renew annually? If so, how?

  33. Chad Daymont writes:

    Mr. Sien,

As a Youth on Course member your daughter will have to renew her membership just like any other NCGA member. How she does so will depend upon how she originally became a member. If she is a member of a Youth on Course certified program, such as a First Tee chapter or similar junior golf program, she will need to contact a representative of that club and renew her membership through them (a full list of certified programs including websites and phone numbers can be found on http://www.youthoncourse.org). If she joined via our online curriculum on http://www.ncgafoundation.org, she will be asked to complete a brief assignment focusing on life skills and how she applies them on the golf course. This assignment will be emailed out within the next couple of weeks and should be completed prior to the end of the year. Upon completion of the assignment, she will be allowed to renew her membership in her local Youth on Course online club.

    Thank you for your participation,

    Chad Daymont

Membership requirements indicate you have to play at least 3 rounds with other members with one of those rounds coming from an official club tournament. If I join an eClub or a course club I am likely to not know anyone who I would regularly play golf with from that specific club. Does playing with other individuals with NCGA handicaps who belong to another NCGA club support this membership requirement?

  35. Tom Bowden writes:

Dennis, Those requirements are only for the eClubs. Other clubs may have their own playing requirements, but the eClub has these restrictions in place so the club can see the player’s handicap index at work. Rounds played with other members is tracked when you post scores as you will be prompted to select a name from the eClub roster. As for playing in an event, the eClub always allows members to bring guests to events so that may ease you into eClub events. Please e-mail member@ncga.org if you have any further questions.

I have belonged to a private club for 15 years and recently resigned. They always paid my membership and then billed me accordingly. I want to be eligble to play NCGA events and keep a current handicap. I also want to make sure I do not have a “gap” in my posting of scores. Will my current membership number stay good until January as I resigned in October. I want to play courses all over the state and do not want to join any club just to keep a handicap. Should I join an e-club? What club would be the best for me to join?

Thank you for all you do to make this a great organization.

  52.

    Tom Bowden writes:

Hal, It appears you are still active on your country club’s roster at this time; however, they tend to do their roster cleaning earlier then most clubs. I would encourage you to sign up with a new club as soon as possible to ensure your membership does not lapse. Since this is our renewal period you may sign up now and it will be valid through December 31, 2009. Based on your comments above, it seems to me your local eClub would be a nice fit for you. You can register by clicking “Join Now” on the NCGA home page.

    Hello,
In this world of online score posting, when is the NCGA going to start allowing members to renew online without having to join a club? Why is it not possible to renew directly to the NCGA for the $40 fee? Instead, we have to find a course or club and pay an additional fee on top of the $40. I know I am not the only NCGA member with this same question and desire. I play many different courses and paying an additional fee to one course in particular is waste of money that I could be spending to play a round of golf(or 2.) I am not trying to be anti-social here, but I find myself renewing at the cheapest course just to get the NCGA membership when all I really want to do is post my scores to track my handicap. Belonging to a particular course to play in tournaments there is not an available option for me because I cannot play golf on the weekends. Is there a plan in the future to make renewing directly available from the NCGA? I am sure I am not the only one who is wondering, I know my three golf buddies agree with me.
    Please post a reasonable response,
    thanks,
    Tim

  60. Tom Bowden writes:

    Hi Tim.
Your question is a very good one and you are correct in assuming that many members have asked the same question in the past. Unfortunately, our hands are pretty tied when it comes to allowing members to join us directly. The handicap system, which is laid out in the USGA Handicap Manual, requires a member to establish a handicap index with a golf club. This is done to allow for peer review. Theoretically, you will/would be playing rounds of golf or tournaments with your other club members so they will have the opportunity to see your index at work. The process of peer review maintains the integrity of the handicap system and allows for all golfers to be on an equal playing field so they can compete against each other.
I understand your question and can tell you that I am currently investigating the possibility of offering online renewals through our website in the future; however, the clubs will still be tied and their memberships will be sold. As I said above, to be in compliance with the handicap system every member must belong to a club.
    Thanks for your question.

  62. Tom Bowden writes:

    Addison,
You may renew your membership by joining a new club. If you visit our homepage and click the orange button at the top that says “Join Now” it will lay out your membership options for you. People usually find the easiest options to be either joining at their local golf course or one of our 8 regional eClubs. Further information on both of those items is available via that “Join Now” link. Please remember that your NCGA/GHIN number and score file follows you regardless of what club you join so please be sure to give that number to your new club. Good luck in your search for a new club.
