FRESNO – The NCGA Junior Tour culminated its inaugural season of competition with its Tour Championship, the final stop of a new eight-event championship series for juniors in the spring and fall. The 36-hole invitation-only tournament was contested at Fresno’s Belmont CC.

In the Boys’ 12-13 flight, Christopher Petefish of Danville held his first-round lead, turning in an eight-over-par 152 for a six stroke win over Hayden Shieh of Fremont. Nicolo Galleti of Clayton and Andrej Bevins of Elk Grove tied for third. Connor Blick of Danville took first in the net division.

Kurt Kitayama of Chico came from behind to capture the Boys’ 14-18 flight, firing two under-par rounds of 70-68 for a two-shot victory. Matthew Seramin of San Geronimo held onto the second place sport he began the day with while Weston Smart of Fresno took third, five strokes back of the champion. Andrew Tam of San Francisco won the net division.

Tiffany Lim of San Jose held also onto her first-round lead in the Girls’ flight, carding a 146 for a two-shot win. This is Lim’s second win on the Tour this fall, as she also took the North Bay Junior Tour at Foxtail in late September. Madchen Lu of Clovis earned runner-up honors while Mariko Tumangan of San Jose was third, three strokes back of the champion. Stephanie Hsieh of Alamo took first in the net division.

Also announced at the conclusion of the event were players of the year based on overall performance during the eight-event Tour as well as in national tournaments and other championships throughout California. The Boys’ 12-13 player of the year was Christopher Petefish on the strength of his Tour Championship win as well as two runner-up finishes in Tour events earlier in the year. Tiffany Lim captured Girls’ player of the year honors based on her two wins on the Junior Tour while Austin Roberts of Carmichael took the award in the Boys’ 14-18 division, receiving a huge boost in the rankings from his runner-up finish in the State Amateur, where the 15-year-old finished second was attempting to become the youngest champion in the tournament’s storied history.

The Junior Tour will start its second season, featuring an expanded schedule of 12 championships March 14-15 at Brookside CC in Stockton.
