LIVERMORE – The 11th Annual NCGA Parent/Child Championship presented some new faces in the winner’s circle in each of the three handicap divisions at Poppy Ridge GC.
After back-to-back victories by Jeff and Jack Wilson the last two years, the team of Kyle John of Monterey Peninsula CC and Steve John of Tehama captured the President’s Flight (for low handicap teams). The duo backed up their first-round net three-under-par 69 yesterday with a three-over-par 75 to claim the title at even-par 144 for the tournament.
Just one stroke back were second place finishers California Golf Hall of Famer Casey Boyns of Monterey Bay GC and son Chris Boyns of Pacific Grove GL at one-over-par 145. Ryan Han of Monterey Bay GC and teammate Sung Han of San Juan Oaks carded a final round one-over-par 73 to take third at 148.
In the Director’s Flight, Brighton Crest’s Christopher and Henry Mata nabbed the title with rounds of net 67-71. The pair won by a comfortable four strokes over the division at six-under-par 138.
Daniel Connolly of TFTSF Y.O.C. and Martin Connolly of Harding Park came back strong in the final round with a three-under-par 69 to take second place at two-under-par 142. The team of 2008 NCGA Senior Valley Amateur Champion Jim Knoll and Kevin Knoll of Bell GC took third with one-over-par 143.
In the Secretary’s Flight, for higher handicap players, the SRI International duo of Sandra Hinnzman and Charles Huff held onto their overnight lead to secure a win. The duo fired a red-hot eight-under-par 64 to finish at net 12-under-par 132 and win the flight by six strokes.
Dakota Bartels of Santa Teresa GC and Dirk Bartels of eClub South Bay fired a pair of 69s to take second place at six-under-par 138, while Douglas and Rich Burton of Saratoga CC finished in third place at four-under-par 140.
