Each year the NCGA recognizes its volunteers with the annual Tournament Official/Course Rater Day. The appreciation day on October 14 included a round of golf and a service awards presentation held at Bayonet/Black Horse this year.
Despite the storm that passed through the day before, the courses were in excellent condition and blue sky emerged for a fabulous day of golf.
The NCGA relies on its dedicated volunteers and could not continue without their valued support. We want to say thank you to all the course raters and tournament officials who contributed in 2009.
Paul Yost was honored as NCGA Tournament Official of the Year. The Hanford resident worked 27 days in 2009 and served on the tournament committee with NCGA board members and staff alike. Yost has been a tournament official since 2001 and is well known for his dedication and knowledge of the Rules of Golf.
Bennett Smith was named Course Rater of the Year. The Oakland resident has been an NCGA course rater for 11 years and completed more than 20 ratings in 2009. Smith was able to fill in when the Association was short on raters helping NCGA staff immensely and giving selflessly of his time.
