Are the prices listed per person ($2100 per person)?

    Greg,
You are correct. All prices listed are for each golfer.

HI there – I’m keen on coming over from Sydney in Australia – can you tell me if my 12 handicap would cross over also?

    Cheers, Matt.

  4. Matt Cleary writes:

By which I mean … if I’m a 12-marker in AUstralia, would that work in the US also?

  5. Tom Bowden writes:

    Mr. Cleary,
We would honor your 12-marker if you were playing in the event. Please remember either yourself or your partner needs to be a NCGA member to participate in the Invitational.

It is a shame that an average American cannot play on this courses. At least they should open them up for a week in a year and make it a $60-$80 a round at Pebble Beach. It is really for the sons and daughters of the people receiving bail out money from the Government.

  7. Keith writes:

It is a shame that this is a package deal. For us that don’t need a room but want to play, is not right. This package/outing looks to be made for the more esteemed.

Pebble Beach is a great course, and to be a NCGA Memeber for roughly 30 years and not have more opportunities to play it, is tough to swallow.

  8. Franklin writes:

It is really a bummer to have all these beautiful courses within a 2 hour drive and not be able to play them on a somewhat regular basis. I know for some people, $500 or even the NCGA-special rate of $375 is not that big a deal, but these days even $85 is a lot to drop on a round when courses like Cinnabar and others allow people to play great tracks for as little as $50. Pebble gets away with it…I can’t imagine other public/resort courses surviving on $150+ green fees in this economic downturn.

  9. Sandie writes:

Is there a way to play without paying for a room? We live here and don’t need a room.
Notice another commented on this as well but did not see a reply. thanks you.

  10. Abi writes:

I live in the area, and was wondering if I can partake in the event without paying the room charges?

  11. Tom Bowden writes:

    Keith, Sandie and Abi,
I am sorry but this offer is a package deal only. We would not have access to the rates and times without the rooms being part of the package.
    Thank you,

    You State:
NCGA members may bring one guest to be their partner or they may play with another NCGA member.
Then you have rates for “golfer with guest”.
Are these two “guests” the same, or is the rate $2100 to $2500 for both me and my wife (”guest” who would like to play)?
If, as I suspect, they are not the same, what is included for the difference in price between the golfer in own room, and golfer with guest?
    Thanks for the clarification.

Is this really a deal I think you can stay at spanish bay anytime and get a tee time for spyglass or pebble beach, What is the cost break down. I also live close, Its hard to part with that much money for a round of golf, Poppy is a great course for the ncga rate. Pebble is on my bucket list.

  14. tom giusto writes:

to much money do you think everyone is rich, this is why golf is going in the crapper.

  15. Alan Carnell writes:

Now you have a deal for country club’s elite, how about a deal for us working stiffs and those on fixed incomes, that is, the ones who play the game for the love of it, without the ego of that most CC members put forth.

    Scott Seward writes:

Alan – We have been working on deals, it’s called the NCGA Member Advantage. Take a look here – http://www.ncga.org/about-ncga/member-advantage/ for more information. More than 60 courses are offering benefits and discounts for NCGA members.

I live in Pacific Grove and would like to know if room at Spanish Bay required or is there a discount for locals who live just outside the gate

  18. Phil Alfonso writes:

Yeah… Sure…. I can afford a high-end hotel room 45 minutes from home, three rounds on arguably some of the best courses in the country for a couple grand….NOT!!!!! Maybe they will give discounts to those people about to get foreclosed upon or have only their UI checks to pay for golf. The NCGA is offering discounts for the benefit of the 1% of members who can actually afford it! Perhaps they should consider spending their time creating promotions for the 99% of it’s members that don’t earn a million dollars a year? Shame on the NCGA!

  19.

    Hilary Howard writes:

    Phil,

Thanks for taking the time to post on ncga.org. The NCGA has recently introduced several member benefits and promotions to appeal to all golfers. The new Member Advantage program provides discounts at more than 60 facilities across the region including free lessons and clinics. Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge were created specifically to offer championship golf courses at affordable prices; free lessons and clinics are offered at both courses and NCGA members receive a 20% discount in the golf shops and a 10% discount in the restaurants.
The Pebble Beach NCGA Invitational might not fit every budget, but the NCGA most certainly endeavors to accommodate all golfers with its offerings. Helping members play more golf for less money in this economy is certainly a focus for the NCGA.
    Thanks.

Jeez….. do you call the Marriott and complain about their room rates which are 10 times the rates of the Best Western. Do you think you should get a ride in a Gulf Stream when you only want to book a seat on SouthWest. How about something a little closer to home. Do you complain to Taylor Made about the cost of the R9 or just go with the deal of a Wilson.

Some places/things cost more…. Get over it.

PS… those who got “foreclosed upon” should have known they couldn’t afford the homes…. But its the rest of us who have to pay for their homes now…. what a deal….. socialism in homes, socialism in golf….. maybe the rest of us should pay for your golf

    Hello everyone,

I am in the hospitality industry and I set up tournaments as well as Food and beverage events. What some of you are forgetting, this is an Invitational tournament. There is more to it than just golf. How nice is it to be able to play 3 great courses, have a nice place to stay, eat good food and if you happen to win (handicap is suspect for the winners of course), then there is awards and prizes. Dont forget the options for hole in one’s, the tee gifts and the complete organization of the event. Plus, this is a holiday, make an event out of it! Those who look at the glass half empty will always have problems when looking for enjoyment, those who look at the glass half FULL, will enjoy them selves to the fullist extent. I think the pricing is in line. Good job by the NCGA. Invitational Tournaments aren’t for everyone.

Here is the breakdown for the Forest view rooms:.
    3 rounds of golf $950 (approx $400 PB, $300SH, $200PH)
3 room nights per person $900 ($600 per room per night)
    Various dinners/parties+goodies+prizes+insurance: $250.

They have a pricing error in their scenic room at $3100. It should be $3300.

Nobody said golf is cheap. But you can probably play a Brentwood golf course for around $50-60 that weekend!

Please lets leave the politics out of golf.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch, but it seems like that’s what people are always demanding.

Thank you NCGA for arranging this event.

Mr Bowden, I have been playing golf for over 50 years and when I last looked, golf like everthing else has esculated in price. Pebble Beach prices have gone up, sure, but so has the value to playing golf at Pebble Beach. I played PB back in 1978 when the green fees were $75.00
and my new 1978 black lincoln was only $11,000. I am sure that the lucky golfers who can’t afford to play in this invitational, but choose to play, will after it’s all over say this is the most fun tournament that they have ever played in…and will probably play again next year.

Thanks, NCGA for thinking of us that are NCGA members for this opportunity.

    And, Mr Bowden, THANK YOU

    NCGA,
$500 or even $375 just doesn’t work for a majority of the golfers in CA. How can a family ‘man’ spend anything over $150 for a single round? I run an NCGA club, Cornerstone Fellowship GC, and all or our tournaments are under $75 except Poppy Ridge/Hills. This year, our enrollments are wayyyy down. Last year, we sold-out our tournaments at 32 players (not bad for a club size of 60 golfers)… This year, we’re struggling to getting 16 golfers per tournament!

HEY PEBBLE BEACH… HOW ABOUT THE $250 SPECIAL (AGAIN) LIKE LAST YEAR? NCGA… ANY CHANCE WE CAN HAVE OUR CLUB PRES. TOURNAMENT AT PB?

    Regards, Mark Anderson

    Mr. Bowden,
My parents had the good graces, and foresight, thank God, to teach me the value of a dollar and an honest job well done. Thankfully here in the good ole’ U.S. of A. there are still honest ways to earn a living out there that DON’T pay just an hourly wage, allowing for those of us with the willingness to put ourselves out there in the big ‘risk’ pool to earn more than those who are not. Many thanks for putting together what is sure to be a fabulously successful AMATEUR tourney on 3 of the most PRESTIGIOUS and IMMACULATELY groomed tracks on the face of the planet! Keep up the great values and please don’t allow yourself, or ANY of the NCGA staff to become discouraged by those who choose not to excel beyond their own mediocrity. Just in case you wondered, they’re probably the same guys who grounded their clubs in the sand last weekend and still scored a par on their card after they were so proud of one-putting. C’est la vie!

I am sure that this is a wonderful event. Yet, it is difficult to see the energies of the NCGA focused on such a narrow party when its member courses, and golf (other than TV) is at an all time low in popularity.

Yes, golf will survive, and hopefully thrive, but as a private citizen who values the great game and tradition, it would be nice to see my money put to work bringing more golfers into the game: something the NCGA and USGA need to address. Without players, there is no need for courses. Without more players, the abundance of courses will decline and scarcity shall rule the day.

Hey, NCGA, how about looking to the future of golf, then you can have my money!

    David

David – Our energies are devoted to many things, this event is only one of them. We have a thriving Foundation whose Youth on Course Program has more than 100 facilities offering thousands of kids the opportunity to practice golf and life skills. You can read more about the program here – http://www.ncgafoundation.org/youth_on_course.php – and we would welcome your donation.

We have also developed the Member Advantage Program http://www.ncga.org/about-ncga/member-advantage/ this year and continue to offer Members-Only Outings – http://www.ncga.org/about-ncga/member_outings/ – to offer golf at a lower cost.

So we are addressing player development, it is the lifeblood of our sport. And contrary to myth, the National Golf Foundation has reported that rounds played are up in 2009.

Just finished all 28 comments…For all who complain I have a solution for you…Before you go to bed at night, put $2.00 in a shoe box do this every night and at the end of the year you can play Pebble Beach and give the caddie a nice tip…Oh, by the way in February 1971 I played Pebble Beach for $15.00 and that day they were demanding for the first time a $5.00 extra charge for a cart…I told them I would go to Spyglass for the same price and walk the course…Pebble Beach would not let me leave…They gave me a free cart that day and told me the next time I came down I would be charged for a cart…

I think this tournament is a great idea! What a great way to spend a the Fourth of July!! I was surprised to see some of the negative comments about it..what are these people talking about? This is not you average golf tournament…This is a 3 day Invitational at one of the greatest places in the US. Thank you to the NCGA staff for orginizing this event. Once my partner confirms I am in.

  31. Brian writes:

I know the reason why the price hasn’t dropped for a round at Pebble Beach it is because foreigners and still playing there. The golf still makes money and they are banking on the prestige not the joy of golfers. It’s a business don’t you get it? The good ole boys club is not going to let you blue collar people play their golf course.

this event is obviously for the few people in this economy that have money to waste and not for the majority of the general public. this is a shame. This is not a good deal, and none of my hard earned cash will go this way.

I was fortunate enough to play the Invitational last year with my two sons. We had a wonderful time and the NCGA did a spectacular job. I will agree that it is an expensive event. We have just enough money to play in it again this year. I liked the shoebox idea, I am going to start today putting $3 a day in the box so I have enough to play next year.

Are women invited to play in this tournament? What a fantastic tournament. Can’t believe all the whiners! I’ve had the privilege of playing at Turnberry in Scotland (absolute religious experience)and also at a mens’-only golf course within Edinburgh, Scotland as a guest, female guest. All I heard from the locals was how they wished they could come to the US to play Pebble Beach. Here we are so fortunate to live right here and don’t even appreciate the availability and possibility to play such a magnificent course beloved by true golfers, Scots, without having to get on a plane and fly 5,000 miles. Can’t make it this year but would love to plan on it next year.

I played in this tournament last year and had the best time ever playing golf. I decided it was my vacation for the year, which made it worth the price. Worth every penny to play the most beautiful course in the world. The NCGA did a great job of making me feel special.
    Thanks.

    Greetings,

As someone who played in this event last year (and traveled from Milwaukee to do it) I can honestly say that the experience was priceless for me. I was able to play with my father and brother (who resides in Northern California) on three of the most amazing golf courses in the world. I had actually paid the full $525 to play Pebble Beach just two months earlier and was very happy to do so, how many people from Wisconsin who aren’t Steve Stricker can say that they have played Pebble Beach twice in three months?

I understand everyone has their own idea of value and mine is probably different from yours but the ability to spend a weekend playing golf on three of the finest courses on earth, stay in a beautiful resort and enjoy a holiday weekend with my parents and brother, for that $2100 is chump change and I cannot wait to get there again this year.

  38. Kurt writes:

Thank you NCGA for all your efforts to bring value to the majority. Your outings are terrific and the Invitational’s are spectacular. Some would argue the price for anything (including golf) is always out of reach. I guess its all relative. It’s okay to post your views about the price but please don’t make this a have/have not or political issue. There is always a cost associated for everything thing in life, so make you choices wisely!

  39. Josh breeden writes:

maybe the NCGA should send out FREE KLEENEX so you can all CRY about not being able to play PEBBLE BEACH FOR FREE???

GEEZ, the NCGA is busting their humps to provide opportunities to it’s membership, if you think it costs too much don’t go. Don’t get mad at the NCGA for not making it free, nothing worth anything is free.

THANKS NCGA FOR ALL YOU DO.

PS all you who are hating on the NCGA for the Pebble deal can go play Poppy Hills for the NCGA SUBSIDIZED rate and complain about not getting anything.

    NEWS FLASH LIFE ISN’T FAIR

We are in awe (and a little sore in the legs) from playing in the 2nd Annual Invitational at Pebble Beach. This was my first time to play Pebble Beach — not my husbands though — and it was spectacular and matched my expectations. Spyglass on the other hand was such a challenge that it will become a recurring nightmare for me.

Thanks to Ally and Tom for organizing a great group of folks, providing great value for the price we paid, and for being so hospitable.

Met some nice golfers, played 3 terrific courses, and celebrated the 4th of July in memorable fashion.
