Assistant Superintendent Boot Camp


suptinternThe NCGA recently wrapped up its annual Assistant Superintendent Boot Camp, a two-day program designed to prepare assistant superintendents to take the next step in their careers.

Under the direction of Director of Environmental and Water Resources Mike McCullough, the program was held in Monterey and featured guest speakers such as Frank Wong, turfgrass pathologist at the University of California, Riverside, Kevin Frank, associate professor and turfgrass extension specialist at Michigan State University; superintendents Pat Finlen of The Olympic Club, Doug Ayres of Corral de Tierra, Jeremy Payne of Empire Ranch and Paul Vermeulen, PGA Tour Director, Competitions Agronomy.

Other speakers who led smaller, break-out sessions included USGA Green Section regional agronomist Pat Gross. NCGA assistant director of rules and competitionRyan Gregg,  Corey Isom, superintendent of the Preserve, Tennessee McBroom, superintendent of Sandpiper GC in Santa Barbara and equipment managers Sal Seeno of Cypress Point and Carlos Vasquez of Spyglass Hill.

Nearly 50 attendees discussed topics such as agronomic issues, course set-up, the Rules of Golf and more.
