NCGA Junior Tour Spring Series II
March 20-21, 2010
Sierra Meadows CC

March 21, 2010

AHWANEE – The NCGA Junior Tour’s second stop of the 2010 season, the Spring Series II Championship, concluded at Sierra Meadows CC.

The Tour is starting to have a very familiar look as Bryson Dechambeau of Clovis and Casie Cathrea of Livermore won respective Boys and Girls titles for the second week in a row.

Cathrea came from one stroke down in the final round to overtake runner-up Betty Chen of Castro Valley. Mariko Tumangan took third, four strokes back of the champion. Cathrea fired a final-round even-par 72 that featured three birdies in producing a one-over-par final score. Both Chen and Tumangan won Junior Tour titles in 2009.

Decambeau essentially secured the championship via a stellar first-round, four-under 68 that had him two strokes up, which featured a double-eagle 2 on the par 5 first hole.  He would finish with that same margin over Andrej Bevins of Elk Grove. Jonathan de los Reyes and Tyler Leeworthy tied for third, three shots back.

The Boys’ First Flight title was captured by Amay Poria of Morgan Hill, who came from three shots behind in the final round to post a two-stroke win over Tim Lamascus of Visalia and Danny Wong of Oakland. The Girls’ First Flight was taken by first-round leader Mabel Wong of Oakdale. Wong carded a three-stroke victory over Janelle Reali of Livermore. Taneesh Sra of Fremont was third.

The Boys’ Net Flight was captured by Zachary Jacobsen of San Jose.  Brandon Page of Clovis was second while Austin Popa of Saratoga took third. The Girls’ Net Flight was captured by Kristi Wong of San Francisco. Madchen Ly of Clovis took second and Carly Childs of Alameda was third.

The Junior Tour will take a few weeks off, next convening in Paso Robles at Hunter Ranch GC April 10-11.
