PEBBLE BEACH – The Del Rio CC team of Don Barbe, Richard Deponte, David Jansson and Tim Speer captured the NCGA Central Valley Zone Championship at Poppy Hills, holding on to its first-round shared lead.
Del Rio fired a 38 under net 248 in the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. One stroke behind was Manteca team of Michael Banton, Michael Culy, Paul Mahony and Michael Stevenson, who shared the first-round lead.
Spring Creek finished third, five strokes out of the lead.
Del Rio and Manteca qualify for the Zone Championship, to be held at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill August 30-31.
