PEBBLE BEACH – The North Ridge team of Jim Ison, Ed Kinney, Chris Nelle and Steve Orlando grabbed the NCGA East Sacramento Zone Championship at Poppy Hills GC.
North Ridge posted a 36-under net 250 in the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. The champions were able to hold on to their lead after posting a powerful 20-under 122 for the first round. Jim Ison, of North Ridge, had the shot of the tournament making a hole-in-one at Quail Lodge on the 17th hole, par 3, 133 yards.
The Sunset Whitney GC team of Ron Fisher, Joel Halverson, Gary Pike and Michael Sula also maintained their first round position and finish second with a final round team score of 19-under 125. Castle Oaks GC came in third, four strokes back of the champions.
North Ridge and Sunset Whitney both advance to the Zone Championship, August 30-31 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
