PEBBLE BEACH – The San Jose CC team of Mike Gonzales, Michael Hepp, Mark Klemczak and David Lively held on to their first-round lead, capturing the NCGA South Bay Zone Championship at Poppy Hills GC.
San Jose CC posted a staggering 45-under net 241 in the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. The champions carded powerful 25-under par 119 on the second round.
The San Juan Oaks GC team of Brent Cardall, Bradley Meyer, Kevin Nitzel and Jerry Shanahan was able to move up to second place with a final round score of 22-under 122.
Larry Postigo, of Bolado Park GC, made a hole-in-one on the sixth hole at Poppy Hills during the second round.
Both San Jose and San Juan Oaks teams will advance to the Zone Championship August 30-31 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
