PEBBLE BEACH – The NCGA Northeast Bay Zone Championship title was captured by the Cypress Lake GC team of Michael Cunningham, Joseph Gardner, Stan Lykins and Dennis Urabe at Poppy Hills.
First place was determined by a three-way playoff. Chardonnay, Cypress Lakes and Delta View were all tied at 38-under-par in a format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. The Cypress Lake team prevailed in the playoff by posting a lower score in two holes of play. The champions posted a powerful 22-under for the first-round lead and were able to hold on to that in the end.
Delta View GC team of Frisco Apalit, Rey Balenbin, Al Bella and Ruben San Diego took second place honors by one stroke in the playoff. Chardonnay GC team fell to third place, two strokes back from the champions in the playoff.
Cypress Lakes and Delta View advance to the Zone Championship, August 30-31 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
