PEBBLE BEACH – The Fall River Valley team of Michael Boehlert, Bill Cox, Matt Mcalerney and Mark Ziesing captured the North Sierra Zone Championship at Poppy Hills GC.
The Fall River Valley team posted a 35-under net 251 in the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. The champions were able to hold on to their lead after posting a powerful 20-under 122 for the first round. Lakeridge GC team of Brian Foster, Craig Foster, Shane Foster and Paul Kautz also maintained their first round second place with a final round team score of 16-under 128. Likely Links took home third place team honors, seven strokes back of the champions.
The shot of the tournament came from Ron Elvidge, of Tahoe Donner. In the thick morning fog, Elvidge snagged a hole-in-one at on the 15th hole, par 3, 172 yards.
Fall River Valley and Lakeridge will both advance to the Zone Championship, August 30-31 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
