Junior Tour – Summer Series V – Poppy Ridge
The final NCGA Junior Tour tournament of the summer was conducted August 24-25 at Poppy Ridge Golf Club. Due to school opening early, the field was very small, but there was some excellent play.
In the Girls Championship Flight, Casie Cathrea won her second consecutive Junior Tour tournament and fifth of the season. She followed up a first round 71 with a wonderful 69 in round two for a nine-shot victory over NCGA Junior Champion Samantha Moyal. Key to her rounds were three eagle threes over the two days. She eagled the 9th hole of the Chardonnay course in the first round and eagled the 8th hole on the Zinfandel course both days including a holed bunker shot in the final round.
Moyal had a battled Cathrea in the first round except for a 7 and a 9 on the two holes Cathrea eagled to shoot 78. In the second round was much more consistent as she shot 71 with three birdies against two bogies. Since winning the NCGA Junior Tour at Metropolitan Golf Links in late July, Moyal has won the NCGA Junior Championship and JGANC’s Fairfield Junior Championhip.
Carly Childs came back from an 80 in the first round with a 70 in round two to finish just one shot behind her high-school teammate Moyal. Childs finished second two weeks ago at the NCGA Junior Tour at Poplar Creek Golf Club.
