PEBBLE BEACH – The eClub East Bay team of Mike Gallagher, David Law, Patrick Moran and Lanny O’Connell claimed the 28th Annual NCGA Associate Club Championship at Poppy Hills.
Coming from behind, eClub East Bay had a powerful finish posting a final round 23-under net 121. Mike Gallagher had a net-double eagle on the 18th to solidify the victory. Prior to the tournament, none of the team members had been aquatinted with one another but now leave as good friends marking an NCGA Championship off of their bucket lists.
Associate clubs from across Northern California competed for the title in a format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. This format parallels the NCGA Zone Championship for regular golf clubs and is held at the same time.
The Rolmex GC team of Randy Bleske, Clem Cooper, Keith Meehan and Glen Riley finished second, two strokes behind the champions. Am Golf Santa Clara and Bank of the West GC teams both took home third-place honors.
The shot of the day went to Paul Crawford of the UAL 32 team when he made a hole-in-one on the 17th with a pitching wedge.
This tournament was the championship of several qualifying events. From 225 associate clubs, 900 players competed in local qualifiers and a sectional qualifier that narrowed the field down to 30 associate clubs who competed for the title at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
