NCGA Junior Tour – Fall Series IV – ArrowCreek
The NCGA Junior Tour made its first trip out of state to conduct the Fall Series IV tournament at ArrowCreek Country Club in Reno, Nevada over the weekend of October 9-10. Sixty-three players from California and Nevada competed in the tournament in four flights.
Mariko Tumangan, took the lead in the Girls Championship Flight after Saturday with a one-over-par 73. On Sunday she shot a 33 on the back nine to highlight a 69 that gave her a seven shot victory over Paige Lee. Lee started Sunday three shots back and shot 73 on Sunday to take second. Samantha Esguerra shot a 71 on Sunday to move up into third place. With her victory, Tumangan moved into second place in the Girls Points List with two events remaining. Three players, Casie Cathrea, Tumangan and Samantha Moyal still have a chance to win the Player of the Year award.
The Boys Championship flight featured some excellent play among a group of strong players. In the end, William Brueckner’s seven birdie, one bogey 66 combined with a 71 on Saturday gave him a two shot victory over Taylor Bromley. Bromley shot his own 66 on Saturday, but could only muster a 73 on Sunday. Bromley’s Saturday round featured an birdie, birdie, par, eagle, birdie, birdie finish. Brueckner had four birdies in a row (holes 3-6) on the front 9 which was the boys second nine to take the lead. Aaron Bronis and Taylor Knoll finished in a tie for third at even par 144. NCGA Junior Tour Points leader Andrej Bevins finished fifth to extend his lead over Bryson DeChambeau who did not play this weekend. Both players are entered in the next two tournaments which should lead to an exciting finish for player of the year.
Mackenzie Sowers won her second First Flight with an excellent final round 72 to follow up her 79 the first day. She got off to a hot start shooting 33 on the front 9. Her round featured three birdies on par-3 holes. Eugene Kim was second and Brittany O’Bryant third.
The Boys First Flight was won by Jason Pan who survived the difficult ArrowCreek layout to defeat David Laskin. Colton King and Jack Richardson tied for third.
The Boys Net winner was Justin Shotwell. Arlin Lo was second and Sam Richardson third. Girls Net winner was Marissa Hinchman with Madelin Gedeon runner-up and Kelsey Ulep third.
