SEASIDE – NCGA Player of the Year Randy Haag and Darryl Donovan captured another title building upon a legacy with the Northern California Golf Association. The pair’s victory in the 7th Annual Master Division Four-Ball Championship today at Bayonet GC in Seaside makes it a Four-Ball Grand Slam for the duo who also won the NCGA Four-Ball Championship at Spyglass Hill in May of this year.

Forty teams of players ages 40 and over from across Northern California competed in a four-ball stroke-play format, where each player plays his own ball and the team records the lowest score. Posting a staggering 10 under for the tournament, for the Olympic Club member Haag and Donovan of Cordevalle, another NCGA victory was nothing new.  “We’ve been playing together in NCGA tournaments since ’98 and we plan to keep on playing together,” said Donovan.

The duo was five-under after eight holes including an eagle on the par-5 eighth for Donovan, to propel the team into the back nine.  An unfortunate set of bogies on numbers nine and 13 offset a couple birdies. “The course definitely played tougher today,” said Haag. “There were hard pin placements, but that’s what makes the tournament great.” The legendary team finished at four-under for the day with tournament scores of 66-68-134.

Also shooting four under for the day was John Enright (Sharp Park GC) and Kevin Kobalter (Meadow Club), snagging a second-place finish. The pair opened with four-under on the front and closed at even par on the back nine. Posting rounds of 71 and 68, Enright and Kobalter sealed a final score of five-under 139.

Senior Player of the Year Mark Miller of Roddy Ranch and Scott Olds of Delta View GC raised a good fight but ended up taking third place honors, one-stroke back from second place. The twosome played a consistent round with only one bogey on the par-5 eighth.
