NCGA Jr Tour Fall Series V Poppy Ridge GC

Results

The NCGA Junior Tour held its Fall Series V tournament at Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore.  The two days couldn’t have been more different.  The first day was filled with sunshine and warm temperatures, while the final round brought tough conditions with breezy conditions, cool temperatures and rain.  Undaunted though, players and parents endured the drastic weather change, and golf went on as planned.

The Boys Championship Flight was won by Travis Rowney.   He fought off Sunday’s tough conditions as he shot a tremendous round of 69 in the final round.  He carded rounds of 73 and 69 for a two day total of 142.  Will Cross, Ryan Knop and Taylor Knoll all played solidly, but couldn’t catch Rowney.  All three ended up with a total of 145 to finish in a tie for second.  Ryan Knop, with rounds of 70 and 75, took second place honors in a scorecard playoff.  Will Cross, rounds of 72 and 73, and Taylor Knoll (70, 75) tied for third.

The Girls Championship Flight was won by Mariko Tumangan.  Despite a couple of miscues, she played steady golf on the first day when she shot 75.   She fought through the rainy conditions on Sunday with a final round score of 72, for a two day total of 146.   Hannah Suh played solid golf as well, but unfortunately came up short.  Despite a first round score of 72, her two day total of 147 left her one shot back of the leader and in second place.  Brenna Nelsen took third place honors with a total of 149, with rounds of 73, 76.

Colin Delaere took top honors in the Boys First Flight.  His rounds of 79 and 81 kept his fellow competitors at bay, and although they chased, they couldn’t catch up to his two day total of 160.   Bryce Yoshimoto (83, 78, for a total 161) continued his strong play with another second place finish as he placed just one shot behind the leader.  Third place winner Chad Castro shot a tremendous 74 on the first, but fell back to 87 on the second day in the tough conditions.  He ended up in third via a scorecard playoff with Bryce.

The Girls First Flight was won by Niki Kelly.  She endured the hilly course and tough conditions for a two day total of 161.  Her rounds of 83 and 78 outpaced second place winner Taylor Shweiki  (rounds of 88 and 77) by two shots.  Tyler Akabane placed third with scores of 81 and 85 for a total of 166.

Boys Net winners are Sam Cusano (1st), Drew Kim (2nd), and Brendan Hopkins (3rd).  Girls Net winners are Lillian Torres (1st), Aileen Jeong (2nd), and Angela Liu (3rd).

The NCGA Junior Tour completes its third season at the Tour Championship at Stevinson Ranch GC on Oct 30-31.
