Hanna-Wehrman Cup Matches
PEBBLE BEACH – The NCGA amateurs beat the NCPGA professionals 13-7 in the 33rd Annual Hanna-Wehrman Cup at Poppy Hills GC. The amateurs held on to their day-one lead and dominated the round-three singles matches, 8 – 2. Last year’s tie score was broken with the amateurs winning 13 of the 20 overall points.

The NCGA is privileged to be able to host this competition and we continue to work toward fulfilling the NCGA’s mission in promoting golf in Northern California.”
NCPGA Hanna-Wehrman Team
The annual event, beginning in 1967, invites the top Northern California amateurs to play against the best NCPGA professionals, determined through a qualifying points’ system. This three-round tournament combines four-ball match play and foursome match play in a Ryder Cup format.
Anthony Barrera closed out professional Steve Hummel at 7 and 6 to post the first score of the third-round singles matches. Danny Paniccia also won his match at 5 and 3 over Jeffery Anderson. In other matches, Hae Young Lee fell to amateur Kyle Prolo, 3 and 2; professional Ken Powell claimed a close match at 3 and 1 to Casey Boyns; and the matches between Darryl Donovan and Rick Liebovich as well as Russell Humphrey and Don Winter resulted in ties.
In a duel between the NCGA and NCPGA Players of the Year, Randy Haag defeated Jason Schmul 4 and 3. Professional Jason Owen won both foursome and four-ball matches but lost his singles match against Ricky Stockton 2 and 1. To close out the event, Kevin Wentworth went 6 and 4 over Greg Rodgers, and George Gandranata finished one-up over Mitch Lowe.
Staedler- Jetter Senior Cup Matches
PEBBLE BEACH – The NCGA senior snatched a close victory over the NCPGA professionals after the final round of the Staedler-Jetter Senior Cup at Poppy Hills GC. The senior amateurs won 15 ½ and 12 ½ overall, also breaking last year’s tie.
The NCGA recorded the first match win for the day with Jay Guerin’s 7 and 6 win over Eddie Duino. The professionals quickly fired back with two match wins in a row: Mitch Thomas over Jim Knoll (3 and 2) and Dave Delong finished one-up on Mark Miller. Amateur Carl Selkirk defeated Al Krueger, 4 and 3, to win all of his matches for the tournament.
John Enright and Ric Burgess tied their match; Glen Stubblefield beat amateur Herb Jensen 4 and 2 to win all three of his matches; Ronnie Wiley won a close match against Gary Plato finishing 2 and 1; and Bob Olds and Raul Quezada also tied their match.
NCPGA Staedler-Jetter Senior Team
In other matches, Doug Johnson beat Olympic Club member John Abendroth 5 and 4; Ric Dudley fell 3 and 4 to Peter Moren; professional Mike Beveridge beat Rob Adolph 2 and 1; Charlie Gibson defeated amateur Dan Bieber 2 and 1; Jeff Burda grabbed a 2 and 1 victory over NCPGA Senior Player of the Year Michael Cook; and Rob Thompson and Michael Paul completed their match all tied.
The NCGA Hanna-Wehrman team comprises Casey Boyns, Ricky Stockton, Anthony Barrera, Kevin Wentworth, Russell Humphrey, Danny Paniccia, Darryl Donovan, Randy Haag, George Gandranata and Kyle Prolo. They competed against the NCPGA team of Rick Leibovich, Jason Owen, Jeffrey Anderson, Ken Powell, Steve Hummel, Hae Young Lee, Greg Rodgers, Jason Schmuhl, Mitch Lowe and Don Winter.
Jeff Burda, Jim Knoll, Dan Bieber, Rob Thompson John Enright, Herb Jensen, Bob Olds, Carl Selkirk, Jay Guerin, Ronnie Wiley, Rob Adolph, Doug Johnson, Mark Miller and Peter Moren comprise the NCGA Staedler-Jetter team. The NCPGA’s team consists of Michael Cook, Michael Paul, Mike Beveridge, Dave Delong, Ric Burgess, Glen Stubblefield, Eddie Duino, Gary Plato, Al Krueger, Raul Quezada, John Abendroth, Ric Dudley, Charlie Gibson and Mitch Thomas.
