TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
Boys Championship Flight
Greg Mroz and Michael Grenz led the way after the first round at Brookside CC. Both shot sizzling rounds of two under par 70, with Jonathan De Los Reyes one shot behind at 71 and Hayden Shieh two shots back at even par 72. Unfortunately, our leaders had a difficult time on Sunday backing up their stellar rounds. Hayden Shieh took advantage with his steady play, firing a final round 73 at Stockton GCC. His 145 total was good enough for a one stroke victory over Jonathan De Los Reyes’ total of 146. Justin Pagila took third place with a strong round of 71. Justin actually was tied with Patrick Soli at 147, but a scorecard playoff gave Justin the third place finish.
The Boys Championship Flight Net winner was Robert Briggs.
Girls Championship Flight
The Girls Championship Flight played at Stockton GCC on the first day. Mariko Tumangan picked up where she left off last year, leading the way with a round of 74. Hannah Sodersten and Paige Lee were each two shots back at 76. The final round was played at Brookside CC under cloudy skies, and even some rain. Paige made up those two strokes and more after the turn with an even par front nine, while Mariko struggled to a four over 40 on the front nine. The back nine was a different story through for Mariko. Although Paige shot a very strong 38 on the back nine, Mariko birdied four of the last seven holes to take back the lead and cruised to her two stroke victory. Mariko finished with a total of 148, and Paige finished at 150. Hannah Sodersten was in the mix too until she was tripped up by the last three holes of the round. Hannah finished third with rounds of 76 and 78 to finish at 156.
The Girls Championship Flight net winner was Mabel Wong.
Girls First Flight
The Girls First Flight also played at Stockton GCC on Saturday. Kelly Shotwell led the way with an 84. Camille Wagg of Rocklin was one shot back at 85, and Jacqueline Ngo of Friant found herself two shots back after the first round at 86. Kelly continued her strong play during the final round with a tremendous round of 73. Her total of 157 was nine shots clear of second place winner Jacqueleine Ngo who shot 86/80, for a total of 186. Third place went to Lillian Torres, who shot 87/80 for a 187 total.
The Girls First Flight net winner was Hailey Murrieta.
Boys First Flight
The Boys First Flight also started their tournament at Stockton GCC. After the first round, Scott Mitchell led the way with an outstanding round of 75, with Ryan Johnson two shots back at 77, and Amay Poria at 80. Ryan kept his strong play going in the final round, and ran away with a victory. His final round 72 gave him a total of 149. Amay Poria came in second place via a scorecard playoff while Bryce Yoshimoto continues to place in these events. Amay’s rounds of 80 and 77 gave him a total of 157, and Bryce’s rounds of 80 and 77 gave him the same total of 157.
The Boys First Flight net winner was Shawn Park.
After a very successful start to the 2011 season, the tour continues onto Sierra Meadows GC on March 19-20.
Unfortuntely, it was raining a bit when the other flight winners were being awarded and no pictures are available. Our sincere apologies.
