CARMEL – The Benbow GC team of Travis Early, Pat Goodman, James Pogue and Rick Sutherland held onto its first-round lead to capture the NCGA North Zone Championship at Quail Lodge GC.

Benbow had started the day tied at the top with Eureka GC, but a steady 22-under net 120 in the final round produced a 243 total and a stunning 11-shot win in the the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole.

The Butte Creek GC team of George Boelman, Ben Walters, Pat Pillsbury and Peter Massoletti finished second while the Eureka GC team of Cliff Williams, Frank Standley, Jeff Myers and Nelsin Iriarte faded to third.

Benbow and Butte Creek qualify for the Zone Championship, to be played August 29-30 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.

Champions Benbow Valley: Travis Early, Pat Goodman, James Pogue and Rick Sutherland

Runners-up Butte Creek: George Boelman, Peter Massoletti, Pat Pillsbury and Ben Walters
