PEBBLE BEACH – The Sunrise GC team of Jeff Barnes, Dave Fondersmith, Larry Lowe and Charles West won the Sacramento Zone at Poppy Hills Friday with a net score of 42-under. Sunrise GC followed yesterday’s round of 120 (22-under net) with a net-score of 20-under, 124 for their 244 total (42-under)—a format which takes the two best net scores of four per hole. Finishing in second place was Brett Chamberlain, David Smith, Michael Watson and Bobby Wheeler of Woodbridge GCC with a net score of 36-under, 250. Woodbridge posted a net score of 21-under Friday to follow Thursday’s net 14-under at Quail Lodge.
Teams close behind the top two included Dry Creek GC (252), Valley Hi CC (254) and Swallow’s Nest GC (256). Valley Hi was in second place going into the day, but followed yesterday’s 124 with a 130 (14-under).
Sunrise GC and Woodbridge GCC qualify for the Zone Championship on August 29 and 30 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
