Casie Cathrea Wins at Pebble Beach with World Golf Hall of Famer Ben Crenshaw

PEBBLE BEACH, CA (July 10, 2011) – Casie Cathrea, 15, from Livermore, partnered with World Golf Hall of Fame member Ben Crenshaw to shoot 22-under par to win the pro/junior title at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.

Cathrea began playing golf at the age of 5 and won the California Woman’s Amateur at age 13. She was the second youngest player to qualify for an LPGA event (CVS Challenge at Blackhawk Country Club). Cathrea was named the 2010 Northern California Golf Association Junior Player of the Year on the basis of numerous NCGA Junior Tour titles. Her future goals are to play college golf and go on to play on the LPGA.

The Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach is a unique Champions Tour event that pairs 78 junior golfers with 78 professionals. The tournament took place July 8 – 10 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course. Cathrea was one of 22 junior golfers who made the cut to play the third and final round on Sunday at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

“We are extremely proud of all the junior participants in the field as they have done an amazing job this week displaying the core values of The First Tee,” said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., CEO of The First Tee. “On behalf of The First Tee network, congratulations to Casie and Ben on their pro-junior victory and a special thank you to Nature Valley for their sponsorship of this year’s event. We are also grateful to the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, Pebble Beach Company and the Champions Tour for their long-standing commitment to The First Tee and this tournament.”
