Golf is a great game for all levels of player. Mosy sports require that the participants are all basically the same skill level for everyone to enjoy. Ingolf, you just need to be with friends, old and new, to have a great day on the links. You will learn more about yourself and those you play with during a few hours on the golf course than you might learn after knowing someone for a year. Remember that all the good value sthat you learn through golf can be used in your everyday life, so Play It Forward!

Play from the tee boxes that will provide an enjoyable round. Far too many golfers of all abilities play from the wrong tees. It’s more fun to play from fairways and hit (or be close to) greens. Most courses have 3 sets of tees. Select the tees that fit your ability–not the tees that fit your ego. The starters at Poppy Hills do a wonderful job of suggesting the proper set of tees that fit your game.

Keep your eye on the ball and hit it solid. If struggling in the fairway, just pick it up and drop it near the green and finish the hole.

Take a series of lessons before you play your first round. Learn the basics of the swing, stance, grip, etc. It will make your first round much more enjoyable and will make the other golfers happy that they don’t have to spend 4.5 to 5+ hours on the golf course behind your group.

Buy the cheapest balls possible. If a ball goes into the woods, high grass, water, or other hard to find areas, just let the ball go and hit another ball. A lot of time and energy can be wasted looking for errant balls. Hey, just kiss it goodbye and move on. In the beginning a person is learning the game, and the cost of the lost balls is just part of the cost of learning the game. In the beginning the type of ball, the make of the ball, and the vintage are not very important. The time spent looking for a ball is best spent analyzing what went wrong, cleaning your club face, cleaning your ball, and developing your course strategy.
