CARMEL VALLEY– The Northern California Women’s Four-Ball Net Championship produced champions in three handicap flights: Merlot, Zinfandel and Chardonnay, at Quail Lodge.
Ann Coeur and Beverly Carr-Barrow, both of Rancho Murieta, won the Merlot Flight after posting a 12-under net 130, nearly six strokes ahead of the nearest competitors.
Las Positas’ Jackie Garrett and Sandia Tourney Golfers’ Sandra Szczerbin, a member of last year’s runner-up duo in the Merlot flight, placed in second after a tie with Stacey Baba of EWGA San Francisco and Sue Stryker of Company Club at Pebble Beach. Both teams carded 6-under net 136s, but Garrett and Szczerbin took the prize after a scorecard playoff.
In the Zinfandel Flight, Lynne Houghton of Agilent Technologies and Belinda Kendle of EWGA San Francisco fired a 9-under net 133 to take home the title.
Linda Hamilton of Ridge Runners and Lynette White of Mather earned second place honors after a scorecard comparison put them ahead of Angie Wong of Dragons and Judy Wu of Lake Merced. The teams matched scores of 4-under net 138.
In the Chardonnay Flight, the team of Nancy Boggs (Escalon Golf Club) and Caroline Haug (Manteca) tied for first place with the team of Karen Graul (E-Club East Bay) and Marsha Jaeger (Tilden) with identical 8-under net 134s. Boggs and Haug were named the champions after a cardoff, with Graul and Jaegar earning runner-up credit.
The Olympic Club team of Margaret Dotterweich and Mariko Dreyer finished in third place, five strokes behind the leaders.
This event is conducted by the Women’s Golf Association of Northern California (WGANC), The Pacific Women’s Golf Association (PWGA), and the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA). Players must be members of one of the three golf associations to compete in the championship.
