LIVERMORE – The 18th Annual NCGA Net Amateur established champions in three flights Tuesday at Poppy Ridge.
John Balsley of Sunnyvale GC took home the title in the low-handicap President’s Flight. Balsley started off the day tied for first with Mill Valley’s Mark Willianen, but posted a 68 to finish at 9-under par 135. A tie for second place at net 138 led to a cardoff, where Rancho Canada’s Richard Ely places in second and Indian Valley’s James Ryan finished third.
The mid-handicap Director’s Flight saw a true fight to the finish after the top three players tied for first place at 7-under net 137. After a four-hole playoff, Jerry Thorsness of Moffett Field GC emerged victorious. Ken Heinly of Rancho Canada GC and Ryan Bell of Spring Hills GC finished in second and third place respectively.
In the Secretary’s Flight, Armando Martinez of Monterey Pines GA fired a 7-under net 65 in the second round to finish in first place with a final score of net 133. Another cardoff determined second and third place after two players shot matching net 135s. Warren Garrison of Walnut Creek took second place honors while Kyle Davisson rounded out the top spots in third.
