STANFORD – Mission San Jose High School claimed the NCGA/CIF High School Girls Championship with a strong 400 total, finishing 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Amador Valley.
Mission San Jose was led by an impressive two-over 72 by Monica Chen and Madison Hirsch’s seven-over 77 in the format that takes the top five of six individual scores.
Also qualifying for the state championship next week was third-place finisher Christian Brothers, who carded a 418, 18 shots behind the champions.
The top nine individual competitors, not on any of the top three teams, also advanced to the California State Championship in Pebble Beach, California at Poppy Hills on November 15. Leading the individuals was Carly Childs of Alameda, firing a one-over 71 to win by one stroke. Other qualifiers include Hannah Suh of Evergreen Valley (72), Anna Zouh of Gunn (72), Kathleen Scavo of Justin-Siena (72), Paige Lee of Granite Bay (73), Maddy Gedeon of Oakmont (73), Shawnee Martinez of Enochs (74), and Sara Scarlett of Woodland (74). Chloe Corriveau of Santa Catalina won a playoff for the last individual spot with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
