Junior Tour Spring Series VI
Roddy Ranch GC
May 5-6, 2012
The Junior Tour of Northern California, sponsored by Capital Insurance Group (CIG), continued its spring tournament season with Spring Series VI at Roddy Ranch GC Antioch. The story of the tournament was the windy conditions (and everyone’s ensuing allergy attacks!). The wind constantly gusted near 30 miles per hour throughout the two day tournament, but despite the windy conditions, watery eyes and occasional sniffling, many players were able to play well and post some very strong scores.
Ryan Han fired a two-day total of 144 to win the Boys Championship Flight, holding off second place winner Jaskaran Sihota and third place finisher Alexander Lee. Han, Sihota and Lee sizzled on Saturday, as all three shot under par rounds of 68, 70 and 69 respectively. They struggled a bit on Sunday, but Han was able to hold his game together for a two shot victory.
Carly Childs cruised to an amazing 16 shot victory to capture the Girls Championship Flight. Carly, who will be playing for Cal Berkeley in the fall, sizzled the course with a round one score of 73, and then an amazing 67 on Sunday, which was highlighted by 6 birdies. Samantha Hutchison was a model of consistency with her rounds of 78-78 to finish in second. With a two day total of 158, Casie Cathrea placed third, when she won in a scorecard playoff with Angela Liu.
John Fracisco of Plesanton captured the Boys First Flight in a heated battle with Justin Lagera and Rajvir Bedi. Fracisco struggled a bit on the back nine, but righted the ship just in time when he birdied 17 and parred 18 for a one stroke victory. His two day total of 153 narrowly beat Lagera and Bedi, both of whom shot two day totals of 154, but Lagera took second place in a card off, while Bedi finished in third.
Yealimi Noh continued her excellent play by winning the Girls First Flight with rounds of 83-80 for a 163 total. She won by six strokes over Sabrina Virtusio who finished at 169 with rounds of 83-86, and Kiran Sangha, who finished third with rounds of 85-86 and a 171 total.
A special thanks, of course, goes to Roddy Ranch GC for their support of our juniors. With its marvelous facility and golf course, our appreciation goes to their staff for their contribution in the success of this weekend’s tournament.
