SAN FRANCISCO – Randy Haag earned medalist honors in the men’s division qualifying at the San Francisco City Golf Championship giving him the top seed for match play. The 2012 NCGA Player of the Year shot a 36-hole qualifying score of 139 at TPC Harding Park bettering a strong field of more than 120 competitors. Haag, who won this event 1999, shot one better than teenager Nicolo Galletti of Clayton. The 17 year-old shot 140 and will play as the No. 2 seed in match play. Coming in at 141, for the third and fourth seeds, were 2011 NCGA Match Play runner-up Michael Weaver and San Francisco’s Daniel Faulkner. In fifth place and earning the fifth seed is 2003 winner Rick Reinsberg.
Eight players finished at 148 and fought for the final six spots of the match play bracket. The six that survived were Brett Borchers (26), Chris Moreno-Hunt (27), Jake Yount (28), Ryan Gronlund (29), Anthony Machi (30), Cody Blick (31) and John Sawin (32). Yount was the 18-hole pre-qualifying medalist held on the 24th at Lincoln Park, posting a score of 65. Defending champion Brandon Hagy didn’t participate in this year’s event. Match Play rounds of 32 and 16 will take place next week on March 3-4 and conclude with the final three rounds on March 10-11.
