PEBBLE BEACH – The Swenson Park GC team of Frank Borges, Chris Delprato, Craig Hushaw and Brad Mills won the NCGA Central Valley Zone Championship at Poppy Hills Tuesday. The four-man team broke free from a three-way tie for third to start the day and climbed its way to the top of the leaderboard to finish with a two-day net total of 39-under par 247. In a format which takes the best two net scores per hole from a four-man team, Swenson Park shot a net score of 21-under par, 123, with the help of seven net birdies, four net eagles and two net double eagles.
The team from Manteca Park GC featuring Matt Miranda, Dallas Mix, Danny Perez and Carl Winter had a similar surge up the leaderboard to finish as runner-ups. The quartet started the day alone in sixth place and five shots off the lead, but they played stellar golf posting a team net score of 124, 19-under par, to finish at a 36-hole score of 249. Manteca Park had a well-balanced attack as the four players shot net scores between 70 and 80.
First round leaders, the four-man team from Jack Tone GC, were unable to match yesterday’s magical round as they followed their 119, 23-under par net score, with a 137, 7-under par Tuesday. Coming up just short of forcing a playoff for the final spot was the team from Del Rio GCC, posting a two-day total of 250.
With their respective performances, Swenson Park GC and Manteca Park GC advanced to the NCGA Zone Championship August 27-28, which will take place at Poppy Hills GC and Spyglass Hill GC.
