EL CERRITO – Two-time JTNC Girls Player of the Year, Casie Cathrea, earned medalist honors at the Mira Vista’s U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Qualifying. The Livermore resident fired a 1-under 71 on the day with 3 birdies and two bogeys to take a three-stroke margin of victory. Joining her at next month’s national championship at Daly City’s Lake Merced GC are Alexandra Sborov, Minjia Luo, Stephanie Lau, Felicia Medalla, Grace Park, Hee Wok Choi and Nancy Xu.
Sborov of Pleasanton and San Diego’s Luo finished tied for second after rounds of 2-over par 74. Sborov’s round included three birdies and five bogeys, while Luo’s card included two birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey. Lau and Medalla finished in a tie for fourth, avoiding a playoff, after posting scores of 4-over 76. Lau of Fullerton had five bogeys on the day and one birdie, which came on the par-5 16th. Medalla, a Daly City resident, had a very Jekyll-and-Hyde round with four birdies, but also five bogeys and one double-bogey. San Diego’s Choi, Park of Cupertino and Sunnyvale’s Xu prevailed in a playoff to earn the last three spots. The three players tied 18 holes of play with Palo Alto’s Jayshree Sarathy and Folsom’s Paige Lee at 6-over 78. Sarathy will be first alternate, while Lee is second alternate.
