Geyer atop the points list

July 16, 2012

PEBBLE BEACH – With his win yesterday in the NCGA Amateur Stroke Play Championship Ben Geyer currently finds himself atop the NCGA Player of the Year points list. It’s significant because six-time NCGA Player of the Year Randy Haag has held the top spot for this entire 2012 points season and likely the majority of the past three seasons as he also won the award in 2009 and 2010. Geyer’s lead is rather marginal as he leads Haag by 68 points 1291 to 1223.

Despite overtaking the top spot, the Arbuckle resident explained it won’t change his golfing regimen over coming months. “I’ll stick to my schedule and keep playing as well as I can,” he said. “It would be a real honor to win [NCGA Player of the Year], but I’m not going to play in a tournament every week, I have too much going on.”

Geyer’s golfing season continued today at Marin CC as he attempts to qualify for next month’s U.S. Amateur Championship. Haag, who finished tied for fourth at the Stroke Play Championship, also was competing in today’s U.S. Amateur qualifier at Marin CC.
