CARMEL – The Arbuckle GC team of Bill Cobb, Henry Kalfsbeek, Thom Stocking and Rick Strain went wire-to-wire to win the NCGA North Valley Zone Championship at Quail Lodge GC on Tuesday with a net score of 247. The team posted a final round net score of 127, 15-under par, in a format which takes the two low net scores per hole of a four-man team. The quartet made net five eagles, three net birdies and one net double eagle in their final round, but also took their first net bogey on the par-5 ninth. Despite the lone blemish on Arbuckle’s scorecard the four-man team was able win by 10 strokes, doubling the margin it started the day with.
The team from Plumas Lake GCC, consisting of Jesse Martynski, Ed Powell, Bernie Taddy and Rick Vardell, started the day in third place, but finished in second place after posting a final round net score of 131. The quartet converted three net eagles and eight net birdies on the day, but also made a net double-bogey and bogey. Plumas Lake’s 257 total was three shots clear of its nearest competition as Yolo Fliers Club, Alta Sierra CC and Brooktrails GC finished at 260. Brooktrails started the day alone in second, but followed its 125 Monday with a 135 today. Yolo Fliers Club posted the low score at Quail Lodge with a net score of 124.
The teams from Arbuckle GC and Plumas Lake GCC qualify for the NCGA Zone Championship August 27-28 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.

PEBBLE BEACH – The team from Arbuckle GC featuring Bill Cobb, Henry Kalfsbeek, Thom Stocking and Rick Strain lead after the first round of the NCGA North Valley Zone Championship with a net score of 24-under par, 120. In a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team, the Arbuckle GC team was buoyed by seven net eagles, seven net birdies and a net double eagle.
Sitting in second place is Steve Lunde, Dan Pabalate, Ed Scott and Edmund Tepas of Brooktrails GC. The quartet posted a net score of 19-under par, 125, which included five net eagles, seven net birdies and one net double eagle to go along with a net bogey. Brooktrails GC is closely followed by the team from Plumas Lake GCC at 126, 18-under par, and alone in third. In fourth and fifth place are Alta Sierra CC (128, 16-under par) and Lakes of the Pines CC (130, 14-under par).
The championship will conclude tomorrow at Quail Lodge GC with the top two teams earning a spot in the NCGA Zone Championship, August 27-28, at Poppy Hills GC and Spyglass Hill GC.
