Merlot Flight: Sue Stryker and Stacey Baba (champions), Sandra Szczerbin and Kit Schmitz (runner-ups) and Beverly Carr-Barrow and Ann Coeur (third place).

CARMEL – The final round of the 7th Annual Northern California Women’s Four-Ball Championship concluded on Friday, crowning three champion teams from three net flights. In the Merlot flight Sue Stryker and Stacey Baba took first place after back-to-back rounds of net 66. The Half Moon Bay GC members’ 132, 10-under par total was six strokes better than runner-up finishers Sandra Szczerbin and Kit Schmitz at 138, four-under par. Szczerbin and Schmitz matched Stryker and Baba with a 66 of their own, but that was following a first round score of 72. Taking third was the team of Beverly Carr-Barrow and Ann Coeur, the defending champions of the Merlot flight, firing rounds of 72 and 68 to finish at 140, two-under par.

“I’m very excited and proud [we won],” said Stryker. “We stayed within our own games.”

Chardonnay Flight: Nancy Boggs and Caroline Haug (champions), Mary Trafton and Marjorie Joseph (runner-ups) and Lois Eriksen and Pat Keys (third place).

In the Chardonnay flight, Nancy Boggs and Caroline Haug successfully defended their title by shooting the lowest net score among all flights with a two-day total of 127, 15-under par. After taking a one-stroke lead in the first round with a net 62, Boggs and Haug shot another spectacular round with a net 65, to win by nine strokes. In second place were Mary Trafton and Marjorie Joseph at 136, six-under par. Trafton and Joseph were buoyed by their first- round 63, as their final round didn’t prove as successful — a net 73. Third place went to Lois Eriksen and Pat Keys, who also had a strong first round and a mediocre second round. Eriksen and Keys fired a first round 65 and a final round 72 to finish at 137, five-under par.

“Whether we win or not, we just come here to have a good time,” said Boggs.

Zinfandel Flight: Beverly Olson and Alba Rodriguez (champions), Dana Carrigan and Tamara Waddell (runner-ups) and Dawn Barraza and Kathleen Adams (third place).

In the Zinfandel flight Beverly Olson and Alba Rodriguez proved to be too tough to beat as they fired rounds of 65 and 66 to finish at 131, 11-under par. Dana Carrigan and Tamara Waddell earned second, but played valiantly enough to earn first place if the circumstances were different. Carrigan and Waddell put together similar rounds to Olsen and Rodriguez as they fired rounds of 67 and 66 to finish at 133, nine-under par. Not far behind were third place finishers Dawn Barraza and Kathleen Adams at 135, seven-under par, after rounds of 69 and 66.

Overall Gross Winners: Cathy Curtis and Kim Belliveau

Cathy Curtis and Kim Belliveau earned the title of overall gross winners, after posting a two-day total of 155, 13-over par. Curtis and Belliveau improved noticeably on the second day, shooting a 76 after an 79 in the opening round.
