CARMEL – An hour frost delay this morning at Quail Lodge GC didn’t deter first round co-leaders Sunset Whitney GC from taking the top spot Tuesday at the East Sacramento Zone Championship. The quartet of players featuring Richard Chang, Gary Pike, James Roman and Rick Scanlon followed a 124 with a final round 128 to finish at a 36-hole total of 252. The Sunset Whitney GC team’s total of 34-under par was good enough to win the championship in a competition which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. Over 18 holes, Sunset Whitney GC managed two net double-eagles, nine net birdies and one net bogey.
The team that will be joining Sunset Whitney GC in the NCGA Zone Championship and taking second place was Lincoln Hills GC, who fired a two-day total of 254. Bill Bowen, Walter Burke, Jess Linville and Denis Niemeyer of Lincoln Hills GC followed yesterday’s 126 with a 128 Tuesday, which included four net eagles, nine net birdies and three net bogeys. Just finishing outside the top two spots and finishing third was Whitney Oaks GC at 255. In a tie for fourth place at 256 were Roseville GC and Indian Creek GC.
Sunset Whitney GC and Lincoln Hills GC advance to the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship, August 26-27 at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC.
