CARMEL – The teams from Buchanan Fields GC and Hiddenbrooke GC locked up the two qualifying spots Tuesday at Quail Lodge GC, the only dilemma was, who’d be champion and who’d be runner-up as both teams finished with a score of 249, 37-under par in a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
After the first hole of a sudden-death playoff the Hiddenbrooke GC team featuring John Clauzel, Chris Patton, Terrence Tucker and Marty Wiseman were crowned champions. Hiddenbrooke GC, who started the day alone in second place, followed an opening round of 121 at Del Monte GC Monday with a 128 at Quail Lodge GC on Tuesday. The four-man team’ scorecard included five net eagles, six net birdies and two net bogeys.
The Buchanan Fields GC team featuring Anthony Galicia, Ed Logwood, John Stanley and Carl Thoreson began the day in a logjam of four teams tied for third place. The quartet of golfers distanced themselves from that group by following yesterday’s round of 124 with the low round of the day a 125, 17-under par at the par-71 track. Their scorecard included plenty of red numbers with a net double eagle, five net eagles and five net birdies to go along with one net bogey. Five strokes back and alone in third place at 254, 32-under par was Oakhurst CC, while first-round leader Blue Rock Springs GC fell to fourth place with a score of 256, 30-under par.
With their performances Hiddenbrooke GC and Buchanan Fields GC advance to the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC, August 26-27.
