Junior Tour of Northern California Spring Series VIII

Ridge Creek GC
May 18-19, 2013

Pairings/Results

The Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC), sponsored by Capital Insurance Group (CIG), held its Spring Series VIII event at Ridge Creek Golf Club May 18-19. The event field featured 74 junior golfers across four flights competing for the title in the 36-hole, stroke-play event. It was an exciting event for the JTNC as all four flights presented tough competition that went down to the wire on Sunday.

Boys Championship Flight: Nick Rodgers (Champion), Corey Eddings (Second place), Austin Murphy (Third place)

In the Boys Championship Flight, Nick Rogers of Santa Rosa posted an impressive 1-under-par 71 in the first round taking an early lead over Corey Eddings of Roseville who came in with an even-par 72. Rogers and Eddings held comfortable leads over the rest of the field heading into the final round where they would compete neck-and-neck for the title. Rogers carded a 1-over-par 73 Sunday to take home the victory with a tournament total of even-par 144. Eddings finished in second place after a final-round 75 bringing his tournament total to 3-over-par 147. Finishing in third place was Austin Murphy of Morgan Hill, who had an impressive final-round comeback with a 2-under-par 70 to finish 4-over-par 148 for the event.

Girls Championship Flight: Belinda Hu (Champion), Angela Liu (Second place), Samantha Oliva (Third place)

Belinda Hu of San Ramon was able to take home the title in the Girls Championship Flight, but only by a single stroke. Hu carded a first-round 5-over-par 77 to hold the lead heading into the final round. Angela Liu of San Jose carded a 6-over-par 78, finishing Saturday one stroke back of Hu. Both girls carded 6-over-par 78s in the final round giving Hu the victory by a single stroke with a tournament total of 11-over-par 155. Samantha Oliva of San Jose finished in third place after an exciting final round comeback. Oliva struggled on the first day carding an 11-over-par 83, but finished the event strong with a 2-over-par 74, the best single-round score carded in either girls’ flight.

Boys First Flight: Drake Jones (Champion), Ryan Ramboyong (Second place), Kyle Stewart (Third place)

The Boys First Flight was one of the most exciting of the weekend, finishing with a sudden-death playoff for the title. Drake Jones of Exeter finished the first round with a 2-over-par 74 to put him in the middle of a tight pack at the top of the leaderboard. Ryan Ramboyong of San Jose and Kyle Stewart of Fresno carded open round 77s putting them in a seemingly improbable position for the victory. Jones stayed consistent during the event carding another 2-over-par 74 in the final round to bring him to 4-over-par 148 for the event. Ramboyong and Stewart lit up the course Sunday carding impressive 1-under-par 71s to force a three-way playoff for the title at 148. On the first hole of the playoff, Jones made a birdie to seal his victory. Ramboyong ultimately edged out Stewart for second place in a scorecard playoff with his impressive 2-under-par 34 on the back nine.

Girls First Flight: Courtney Gaoiran (Champion), Lillian Torres (Second place), Jasmine Hsu (Third place)

In the Girls First Flight, Courtney Gaoiran of Vallejo won the event by a single stroke over competitor Lillian Torres of Fresno. Gaoiran carded a 6-over-par 78 to lead the flight heading into the final round. Torres was just shy of co-leadership Saturday with a 7-over-par 79. Gaoiran and Torres battled throughout the final round and ultimately both finished with 5-over-par 77s. The single stroke from her first round was enough to give Gaoiran the victory. Torres took home second place, while Jasmine Hsu of Fremont finished in third place with 14-over-par 158. Hsu had a notable comeback in the final round carding 3-over-par 75 after an opening round 83.
