PEBBLE BEACH – Four-Ball Net Qualifying took place Thursday at 12 different golf courses with 13 qualifying fields—Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore held two qualifiers.
Bidwell Park GC in Chico had three teams advancing with two teams sharing low score honors. Chas Gower and David Williams, and Ron Pence and Scott Dutra fired a net 58, while Burke Adrian and Rich Staples carded a net 59 to advance.
Castle Oaks GC in Ione had five teams qualify for the championship led by Scott Gregorson and John Wentzel posting a net score of 58. The other four teams to qualify fired a 59 and three fired a 60. Four total teams finished with a net score of 60, but one didn’t advance and instead earned first alternate.
Crystal Springs GC in Burlingame advanced three teams with the low qualifying net score being a 65 by Zack Brooks and Glen Thurber. Several teams finished with a score of 66, but only two advanced to the championship with that score, Robert Theisen and James Collins, and Tomas Consunji and Frank Elliot.
Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore had three teams from each of its qualifiers advance, with one course setup producing much lower scores. The Chardonnay/Zinfandel setup was led by a low qualifying net score of 58, fired by Clint Walker and Stanley Richins. On the Zinfandel/Merlot setup the low qualifying net score was a 64 Jon Owyang and Vivek Rao.
Rancho Canada in Carmel Valley had five teams qualify with two of those sharing low score honors with a net 62, Luis Miranda and Stephen Mort, and Danny Bragas and Pete Pappas.
The lowest score of the day by far came at Rancho Solano GC in Fairfield. Keith Ahlstrom and Rob Theiller teamed up for a net score of 56, beating their nearest competitors by four shots. In total, five teams qualified at Rancho Solano GC all shooting a net score of 61 or better.
At Ridgemark GCC in Hollister Marlo Bramlett and Mike Gonzales earned medalist honors with a net score of 60. The duo won by a margin of three strokes and was one of four teams to qualify from the site.
San Geronimo GC in San Geronimo had five teams qualify from its site, which was led by Bruce Barbera and Darren Whiteside with a net score of 60. The four other teams to qualify saw two teams post scores of 61 and three teams post 62, with two of those teams qualifying.
Shadow Lakes GC in Brentwood was allotted five qualifying spots, with the low score honors going to Craig Eller and Olaf Elze scoring a net 59. Other scores to qualify were a 60, 61 and two 63s.
Sunnyside CC in Fresno produced a sub-60 net score as Victor Torres and Michael McElfresh posted a net score of 58. The next best score came from Ron Stogdell and Eddie Zaharaides, who fired a net score of 62. The other three teams to qualify each scored a net 64.
Results from Elkhorn CC and Mather GC still have not been posted as of Friday May 24 at noon. All results are unofficial until the championships and events staff has verified all scorecards.
The NCGA Four-Ball Net Championship will take place June 24-25 at Spyglass Hill GC and Quail Lodge GC.
