MONTEREY – The Spring Valley GC team of Frank Loebig, Tom Smith, Mike Tomaselli and Joel Traina went wire to wire to become the 2013 NCGA East Bay Zone Champions on Friday at Del Monte GC. The quartet of golfers totaled a two-day net score of 252, 34-under par in a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. After a round of 17-under par 125 at the par-71 Quail Lodge GC on Thursday, the Spring Valley GC team followed it up with a second consecutive round of 17-under par, 127, at the par-72 Del Monte GC. The group of four combined for two net double eagles, four net eagles, five net birdies and two net bogeys.
Finishing in second place and charging up the leaderboard to join Spring Valley GC in the late summer overall championship was the team from Sequoyah CC. Starting the day in a tie for fifth place the Sequoyah CC team of Bruce Del Fante, William Levey, Chester Lievre and Eric Rudney fired an 18-under par 126, which included a net double eagle, five net eagles, six net birdies and one net bogey. Combining that with their first round score of 13-under par 129 was good enough to finish at 255, 31-under par one better than Crow Canyon CC at 256, 30-under par and alone in third place. In fourth place at 258, 28-under par was Summitpointe CC, who started the day alone in second place.
The next stop for Spring Valley GC and Sequoyah CC is the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship August 26-27 at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC.

CARMEL – Spring Valley GC leads after the first round of the NCGA East Bay Zone Championship, posting a net score of 125, 17-under par at Quail Lodge GC. Frank Loebig, Tom Smith, Mike Tomaselli and Joel Traina of Spring Valley GC put together a round that included two net double eagles, five net eagles, four net birdies and three net bogeys, in a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Only one stroke back at 16-under par and alone in second is the team from Summitpointe CC. Jon Carone, Dante Estores, Joel Tyrus and Gary Williams of Summitpointe CC teamed up to make one net double eagle, four net eagles, seven net birdies and two net bogeys.
Alone in third place at 15-under par is the Pleasanton GC team, who had eight net eagles, five net birdies, two net bogeys and a net quadruple bogey. Crow Canyon CC is alone in fourth place at 14-under par, scoring three net double eagles, three net eagles, three net birdies and two net double bogeys. Tied for fifth at 13-under par are Sequoyah CC and Blackhawk CC, while San Leandro CC is alone in seventh at 12-under par.
The final round of the NCGA East Bay Zone Championship will take place at Del Monte GC tomorrow with the top two teams advancing to the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship August 26-27 at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC.
