CARMEL – Del Rio CC pulled away from the pack to capture the NCGA Central Valley Zone Championship. The team of Richard Deponte, Dennis Culbertson, Tim Speer and Don Barbe finished the event carding 44-under-par 242 to clinch the title in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. Del Rio CC finished the first round with a 19-under-par, in a four-way tie for fourth place. The team got off to a good start in the final round with four consecutive net eagles. After the turn they had six net eagles sealing their victory over the field.
Finishing in second place was Escalon GC. Comprised of Jess Bradley, Tom McCarthy, Brad Haskin and Glen Shaw, Escalon GC started the competition firing an impressive team score of 23-under-par 121 at Del Monte GC. Their opening round was enough to take home silver as they finished the final round carding 129. Escalon GC had three consecutive eagles on Nos. 14, 15 and 16 at Quail Lodge GC.
Del Rio CC and Escalon GC advance to the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC on August 26-27.

MONTEREY – Jess Bradley, Brad Haskin, Tom McCarthy and Glen Shaw of Escalon GC lead after the first round of the Central Valley Zone Championship firing a team score of 121, 23-under-par at Del Monte GC. In a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team, Escalon GC coalesced for two net double eagles, eight net eagles and four net birdies, to go along with a net bogey and net double bogey.
Not far behind at 125, 19-under-par and in a four-way tie for second place are teams from Manteca GC, Del Rio CC, Creekside GC and Swenson Park GC. The Manteca GC team scored nicely converting two net double eagles, three net eagles and eight net birdies to go along with a net bogey. The team from Del Rio CC had a very symmetrical round scoring seven net eagles, seven net birdies, two net pars and two net bogeys. The Creekside GC team had a flawless round not taking a single net bogey and converting six eagles and seven birdies. Lastly, the Swenson Park GC team made five net eagles, 10 net birdies and one net bogey to get to 19-under-par.
Also in contention at 128, 16-under-par, are five teams tied for sixth place: Rancho Del Rey GC, Elkhorn GC, Diablo Grande GC, Old River GC and Rio Vista GC.
Tomorrow’s final round will take place at Quail Lodge GC with the top two teams advancing to the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC on August 26-27.
