LIVERMORE – Half of the field for the 31st Annual NCGA Associate Club Championship is set. Fifteen teams qualified for the championship on Wednesday at Poppy Ridge GC as five teams from each of the three course setups advanced.

In the Chardonnay/Zinfandel setup the Fresno MAGA GC led the way with a net team score of 117, 27-under-par. In a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team, Fresno MAGA GC had a flawless day with no net bogeys and converted a net quadruple-eagle, a net double-eagle, seven net eagles and five net birdies. Alone in second place not too far back at 119, 25-under-par and advancing was the PGG Laguna Seca team. Two teams tied for third place at 123, 21-under-par (UCSF GC and Vintage Park GC), while the final team to qualify in solo fifth place at 125, 19-under-par was Hayward Dealers GC.

Not to be outdone, the winners of the Zinfandel/Merlot setup, Fore Women GA, also posted a net score of 117, 27-under-par matching Fresno MAGA GC’s impressive feat. The team of Patrice Dennis, April Kenyon, Kristina Ramos and Jen Shaull joined up to make three net double eagles, six net eagles and six net birdies in a bogey-free effort. Five shots behind and alone in second place at 122, 22-under-par was E-Club Fresno. Tied for third at 124, 20-under-par were Fore Acres GC and Foresthill GC, while alone in fifth and earning the last spot was UAL 32 GC at 125, 19-under-par.

Masters Big Valley wasn’t able to match Fresno MAGA GC and Fore Women GA’s low number, but did put up an exceptional net score of 119, 25-under-par on the Merlot/Chardonnay setup. Bill Cardoza, Lee Coelho, Eric Jung and Frank Oliveira combined for a net triple eagle, seven net eagles and seven net birdies in their bogey-free performance. Alone in second and three shots back at 122, 22-under-par was the team of Pac Bell GC of Sacto. Just as the other two setups, there was a tie for third as the Caddy Club of Pebble Beach and Bay Area Pinseekers GC finished at 123, 21-under-par, while capturing fifth place was Campbell GC at 127, 17-under-par.

The 15 qualifying teams from Wednesday will move on to the 31st Annual NCGA Associate Club Championship at Del Monte GC and Spyglass Hill GC on August 26-27, while the final 15 will qualify on Thursday August 1 at Poppy Ridge GC.
