Plumas Lake Golf and Country Club made it a runaway.
Plumas Lake G&CC shot a 19-under 121, its second straight assault on par, to walk away with a 24 stroke win in the NCGA North Valley Zone Championship at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch.
In Monday’s first round at par-72 Del Monte Golf Course, Plumas Lake G&CC posted a 35-under 109 to take a commanding 14 stroke lead in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. At Del Monte, the team was a machine, posting 12 eagles, five birdies to go with a par.
The Plumas Lake G&CC squad, made up of Roger Baker, Bernie Taddy, Ronnie Davis and Rick Vardell, had nine eagles, three birdies and three pars at the Ranch. The team even suffered three bogeys, but had plenty of breathing room to easily win the title.
Finishing as runner-up at 30-under 254 was the team from Lake Wildwood Golf Course after a final round 9-under 131.
The Lake Wildwood GC squad, comprised of Danny Naillon, Douglas Dorfmeier, Mike Mckee and Richard Gross, carded four eagles, four birdies and seven pars to go with three bogeys to just hold off co-third place finishers Glenn Golf Course and Arbuckle Golf Club by two strokes.
With their finishes, both Plumas Lake G&CC and Lake Wildwood GC earned automatic berths into the 48th annual NCGA Zone Championship, to be held August 25-26 at Poppy Hills Golf Course and Spyglass Hill.
Glenn GC, made up of Mark Olsen, Joe Van Houtte, Brian Lohse and Jerry Faughn, jumped into the tie for third with a solid final round of 127 that included four eagles and five birdies.
Arbuckle GC, who had entered the finale a stroke behind Lake Wildwood GC, could only manage a 132 due to suffering a pair of double-bogeys on holes No.12 and No.13.
