Justin Warthen of Nipomo is headed to this year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.

Warthen earned his way into the championship on Monday, carding a medalist-earning 5-under 66 in an 18-hole qualifier held at par-71 San Luis Obispo Country Club.

Joining Warthen as qualifiers were Michael Walton of Indian Wells, who shot 70, and Ramie Sprinkling of Camarillo, who had a 71.

First alternate is Michael Rowley of San Luis Obispo (72). Second alternate is Nick Mears (72) of Bakersfield.

This year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 6-11 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Pennsylvania.
