The par-5 13th hole at Montreux GC in Reno. Members can sign up to play Montreux, the site of the Reno-Tahoe Open, on June 3.

The NCGA has continually provided members the benefit of playing at some of our region’s best private and resort clubs through the Members-Only Outings program. In 2013, you can participate in both weekday and weekend events, and welcome guests to a few select locations. We have also included a brief description of the venues we will be playing, and the website for each course at the bottom of the page.

For instructions on how to register, click here. To sign up for an outing or see the full event description, click the blue “Register Now” button below. If you have a specific question regarding one of the events, please contact Sam at sstaton@ncga.org.

Stanford University Golf Course

Eight Stanford national title winning golf teams have called this course home. It frequently ranks as one of the best collegiate courses in the country. Many golf greats including Tom Watson, Tiger Woods, and Mickey Wright have honed their skills here. Most recently, Stanford freshman Mariah Stackhouse shot a 10-under 61 to set the women’s course record.

Claremont Country Club

This 1897 course is one of the founding members of the NCGA, under the name of the Oakland Golf Club. James “Pop” Smith was the course designer, but Alister MacKenzie redesigned the course in the late 1920s. Golf great Sam Snead won his first professional tournament, the Oakland Open, here in 1937. The course recently underwent a restoration, bringing MacKenzie’s original design back into focus.

Silverado Resort, North

The North Course was recently redesigned by PGA Tour great Johnny Miller (who is also a part owner). It was a frequent host of professional tournaments, including the Senior PGA Transamerica Championship. Invite a few guests to join you in wine country for a weekend of leisure. A 10% discount for the spa applies for event participants and their guests.

Del Rio Country Club

This classic was designed in 1946 by William Bell, who also designed Bel-Air CC and Riviera CC. Del Rio recently hosted the 2012 CGA Senior Amateur Championship. Sign up quickly, as entries are limited to the first 50 players.

Montreux Country Club

Montreux is the host venue of the PGA Tour’s Reno-Tahoe Open, and this outing allows the rare opportunity to play where the pros play. This 1997 Jack Nicklaus design is touted as one of his favorites. Discount hotel nights are available by contacting Sam at sstaton@ncga.org.

North Ridge Country Club

William Bell also designed North Ridge CC, one of the finest courses in the valley — a parkland style with elevation changes weaved throughout. The clubhouse underwent a $6 million renovation in 1997, making the facility all the more suitable for tournament golf.

Diablo Country Club

Panoramic views of the east bay hills and Mt. Diablo highlight this classic design from 1912. Its small greens and challenging bunkers test even the most skilled players.

Pasatiempo Golf Club

Course architect Alister MacKenzie touted this layout as his favorite, even above Augusta National and Cypress Point Club. It is ranked in the top 3 of “Best courses you can play in California” by Golf Digest.

Edgewood Tahoe Resort

Bring a guest and test your skills on the course the celebrities play. Host of the American Century Celebrity Championship, the Edgewood Tahoe course runs along Lake Tahoe and offers breathtaking views of both mountain and sea. Discount hotel nights are available by contacting Sam at sstaton@ncga.org.

Lake Merced Golf Club

Lake Merced is continually a favorite among outings each year, and has sold out quickly for good reason.

But three SCGA Outings are available to NCGA members in May (Bighorn GC – Canyons, Mission Hills – Dinah Shore, Mission Hills – Palmer Course), another on June 17 (Baskerfield CC), and the Central Coast Tour runs from Oct. 12-16.
