Q. What is a NCGA Association Membership?
A. The NCGA Association Membership is a program providing members in good standing with another golf association the opportunity to take advantage of NCGA member benefits.
Q. Why would someone from another golf association want to join the NCGA?
A. Members of other golf associations can enjoy the many NCGA member benefits, such as discounted green fees and merchandise at Poppy Hills GC and Poppy Ridge GC, a subscription to NCGA Golf magazine, member-only outings and free golf clinics among others. If you plan to visit the Monterey Peninsula to play golf, if you live part-time in Northern California or if you travel frequently to the area for business, a membership with the NCGA is for you. The savings from playing one round of golf at Poppy Hills or participating in one member outing more than pays for an NCGA Association Membership.
Q. Why do I have to be a member of another golf association?
A. Two of the objectives of the Association Membership are to offer NCGA benefits to all golfers and to provide other golf associations the opportunity to augment their current member benefits. Like other state/regional golf associations, NCGA Member Clubs are the group that issue USGA Handicap Indexes to their members. A Handicap Index is issued only through a golf club. The NCGA does not want to grow its membership at the cost of other golf associations and we do this by not including a USGA Handicap Index service. We do not want golfers to leave another golf association to become a NCGA member. In fact, we want more people to join other associations. If you want to be an NCGA member, you have to join through a NCGA Member Club or individually as a member or another golf association.
Q. What NCGA benefits do Association Members receive?
A. Members enjoy an extensive and expanding list of benefits including:
Discounted Green Fees – Member rates at Poppy Hills are nearly 75% less than the public rate
Members-Only Outings – At private/resort courses throughout the region
Free Lessons
Subscription to NCGA Golf - The golf lifestyle magazine of Northern California
Hotel & Spa Discounts
Member Advantage Card
Extensive and comprehensive tournament schedule
This is only a small sample of the benefits and services available to NCGA members. Make sure you review the entire list.
Q. How can I sign up to be a NCGA Association member?
A. The easiest way to enroll as an Association member is through our website, www.ncga.org. Click on the “Join Now” button and select the Association membership link, then select Online Membership Registration. You will go through a few easy steps including paying with a credit card. It is that easy! You can also call or e-mail the NCGA, please contact our Member Relations & Development Department at member@ncga.org or (831) 625-4653.
Q. How much will my NCGA membership save me?
A. Your membership can save you a minimum of $325, how?
• playing Poppy Hills GC once saves you $145
• playing Poppy Ridge GC once saves you $35
• playing in a member outing saves you at least $75
• taking a free lesson at one of our golf clinics saves you at least $50
• free subscription to NCGA Golf magazine saves you $20
The savings potential grows as we add more benefits.
Q. When will my membership expire?
A. All NCGA memberships are for one calendar year.
Q. What if I am not a member of another golf association?
A. If you are not a member of your local state (i.e. Oregon) or regional (i.e. Southern California) golf association, then you should join one of their member clubs. Contact your local association on how to find a club.
Q. What if I am a WGANC or PWGA member and already have a membership through a NCGA member club?
A. If you are a member of one of the two Northern California women’s golf associations (WGANC/PWGA) we encourage you to determine what fits you best. Most golfers join a club for many reasons, it may be for the tournaments, they like playing the golf course, or maybe they enjoy the social activities at the club. We encourage members to stay with their current NCGA Member Club for whatever the reason. However, if you are a WGANC or PWGA member and you currently are not a member of the NCGA then our Association membership is an easy option to join.
Q. What if I want to get a USGA Handicap Index?
A. If you want a USGA Handicap Index then joining an NCGA Member Club is the best option. We have several ways to join a member club, you can join at almost all Northern California golf courses, you can join one of our Associate or non-real estate clubs, most of these groups have some prior affiliation through work or a social or ethnic group. Another option is our eClubs which are fully functioning associate clubs that utilize a website as their virtual clubhouse for their members. Please visit www.ncga.org and click the “Join Now” button for more details on all of these options.
Q. Is there a restriction on tournaments an Association Member can participate in?
A. An Association Member who meets the tournament eligibility requirements can participate in all individual or team events, but not in NCGA club-level tournaments.
Q. Who do I contact if my home association is not on the list of associations?
A. Please contact the NCGA Member Relations & Development Department by calling 831-625-4653 or send an email to member@ncga.org.
Q. Who do I contact if I am having difficulties getting registered as a member?
